You know that channel that's just a burning Yule log? They need one for Thanksgiving that's just two uncles dozing in recliners in front of a football game.

I rigged up our house with flood and leak monitoring hooked up to Home Assistant. I wrote a bit about the planning and the hardware that I used:

In this, the year two-thousand-and-twenty-five, I find it stunning that Xfinity's website won't accept an email address at a .cloud TLD.

In honor of #GodzillaDay, some Godzilla art my amazing wife made for my office. It's depicting Godzilla on his way to work at his demolition job. The spines are glass shards and his scales are relief paint dots. Brings a smile to my face every time I see it.

I wrote a post about automating our garage door with Home Assistant. It can be surprising how many edge cases you have to handle even with requirements as simple as "message me if the door is left open for 30 minutes".

Garage Door Alerts With Home Assistant
I created some automations in Home Assistant to alert me when the garage door is open for too long.

First time in a while that I vocally "booed" at a Bake-Off decision.

I get it, but I very much wanted a different outcome.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

In a sane country with competent leadership, the 50 highest-ranking Democrats would call a press conference to denounce what just happened as a threat to the republic and demand Trump's immediate impeachment and removal from office.

I don't know he could make his intentions more clear.

Good morning and welcome to Tuna Tuesday

Let people be.
Let them mispronounce words, gush about what they love, or get excited about things you don’t understand.
You don’t have to get it, just be kind. Everyone has something that lights them up. Let them shine.

What a weird fucking thing to be nostalgic about. Gross, poorly kept fish tanks and other sad pets?

The only good thing about 2002 Walmart was that the TVs didn't have motion smoothing yet.
This is doing numbers on social media right now and it's so depressing how people truly yearn for this shit and want to preserve that feeling indefinitely like a mausoleum of false memories.

My personal site has a big "stay out" sign posted for AI scrapers and LLM bots. A while ago I set up some tracking to see if they were obeying the sign (spoiler: some aren't).

Here's how I'm tracking them and some of the surprises in the data collected:

Trying to sign up, but getting a script error when I hit the Register button:

Not seeing a CAPTCHA at all on the page. (I tried using the contact form to tell you about this, but I got the same error there.)

I... I would honestly consider paying for this. Lightning bugs are one of the things I miss about living in Indiana.
You should be able to order a firefly to your home. The delivery guy should arrive at your door with cupped hands and gently release it into your living room. And the two of you should stand there and watch it together with silent reverence

Looking forward to finding out where Donny got the video of the boat blowing up.
Because it would be *amazing* if it was a fake they made to placate him and now they have to pretend it was all real.
It probably isn't, but that'd be a fun tragic conclusion to all this, "In The Loop"-style.

I was today years old when I finally stopped hoarding all the hex wrenches from every piece of cheap furniture I've assembled for the past 2 decades. Now the proud owner of a real set of wrenches instead of a clanky zip-loc bag.
