Happy new year, y'all! May your 2026 be better than 2025 was.

The bar is so low. Please, 2026. Be better. 🥴

"How did you get your start in writing?"

Well, you see, I daydreamed way too much as a little kid and just never really stopped 🥴

I wrote almost every single day this year! I worked so hard on building the habit, and it's been a lot, but I feel like I really put my back into it this year. 🎉

What's something you did with your writing in 2025 that you're genuinely proud of? (If you disparage yourself on this post I will beat you with hammers) #WritingPrompt

Working on the last bits of The King in the Mountain this week! Started off today by adding a little polish to this scene. It's one of my favorites: Silas' first interview with a real actual vampire! Ansel doesn't give him the answers he's been hoping for, though.

I just hit 100k on The King in the Mountain!!!! 🎉

I had to adjust my goal, because I've still got a little left to write (it will probably end up around 105k) -- but overall I am SO proud of this story, and so excited to get to the editing stage soon! Woohoo!

The most important thing in writing is to finish. A finished thing can be fixed. A finished thing can be published. A finished thing can be made into a movie.

An unfinished thing is just a dream. And dreams fade if you don't hold on tight enough.

So finish the thing.

I'm autistic, so of COURSE I'm going to start low-key panicking when I realize my favorite mug is beginning to show signs of wear and age. 🥲

Used my end-of-year bonus to buy myself a ticket to my very first writing workshop! I feel like this is a big step... I'm finally throwing myself into it and getting serious about getting published.

Regardless of what happens I think (hope!) there will be some great information!

My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

Me: (working on novel)

Brain: Hey, got a great idea for a novel. Not this novel.

Me: (typing) Not now, brain.

Brain: Don't you wanna know what it is?

Me: NOT NOW, BRAIN

Brain: I'm not gonna lie, it's SUPER cool

Me: LET ME FINISH THE NOVEL IN FRONT OF ME, BRAIN

Brain: Okay, I'm gonna tell you

My favorite tyrant joke: a man comes every day and peers at the front page of the newspaper without buying it.

The newspaper vendor says, "what are you looking for?"
"An obituary."
"Obituaries aren't on the front page."
"This one will be."

Completely at a loss for words as to how to explain to my coworker (who is from a different generation) that an email simply saying "THANKS........." is basically flipping me off by my generation's standards (millennial). 🥴

Upright would be Nicholas from The King In The Mountain. He was a king when he was human -- he's great at taking command of a situation and projecting authority but under the mask, he's more quiet and sweet.

The antagonist, Clarion, would be reversed for sure. 👀

We're matching up our work to the Major Arcana Tarot Cards. Tell us how your characters (or places, things, or events) match up!

Today's card is: THE EMPEROR

Who or what from your writing would go on it and how does it fit?

Here’s why you shouldn’t pull your punches as a writer:

A big part of the appeal of a book is how dedicated the author is to their idea.

That crackling energy only comes from compulsion, the true driver of creativity.

Restrain it at your own peril.
