Absolutely miserable run. Never felt right. Chalking it up to 14 hour workday yesterday and 4 hours of sleep.

I just got spectacularly good news. The kind of wonderful life changing news that relieves existential anxiety.

Deep breaths. It’s gonna be okay.

Sure. At $500/hr with a minimum $20k retainer.
Some researchers have used a preprint of one of my papers, run it through an AI and got it to generate follow-up ideas. Now they would like me to rate the suggestions.

Do I play? I don’t think I want to 🤔

One major difference between TV emergency medicine and real world:

Families in the real world are typically calm, quiet, and bored. Even when their family member is gravely ill.

It’s uncommon - very uncommon - to have hysterical, combative, or lamentatious family.

The ED here - a large city level 1 trauma - has only 3 patients this morning.

Very nearly a “Yahtzee!”

Slipped on a wet kitchen floor, sat down on an upturned steak knife in the open dishwasher. 2.5” penetrating trauma to right glute.

Insanely lucky I didn’t transect my rectum.

Had 6 stitches and a drainage tube. Had to tape a maxi pad to my ass for 2 weeks.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

😅

Okay! Got a workout in and a nap, now back to work for 6 or 8 more hours.

Long day, today. But I’m charging consulting rates.

4 months with no lifting has made me weak and flabby.

Tell me you’re not the same, liars.
I’m sorry, my file will be named

and there is nothing the laws of God or men can do to change it.

Hot take: penguins are basically just lacking viviparity, and when they evolve it they will become avian dolphins.

I defy any evolutionary biologist to contradict me.

“People didn’t make CSAM, the machine that people made made CSAM.”

No surprise there’s such overlap with the gun nut crowd.
Ooh look, we’re seeing the “let’s attempt to deflect blame to the artificial construct that is The Demon Machine instead of the actual, breathing, fallible humans who made the Demon Machine” maneuver play out in real time!
AI cannot take accountability. AI cannot be “sorry.”

You have no control over the outputs of AI if you did not make it yourself, train it on very specific data sets, and create extremely rigorous control methods. Even then the safeguards are limited.

The creators must be held accountable

I’m going on a business trip while BB is deep in CTSA grant submission time.

I’m preparing her food for the week so she doesn’t just have to rely on food trucks and grub hub.

Making black bean hummus, guacamole, sourdough castoff naan, a loaf of bread, and 2 pounds of meatballs.

Things to be grateful for on the first day of a new year: I’m not the poor SOB who spent 3 days in a blackout, woke up in the hospital with a shattered leg, and had to relearn his own name.
