I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

in addition: the boycott is not about you, Guy Who Has Never Drank Starbucks. it is about people who actually patronize that place and are refusing to give their usual daily coffee money to the place they usually go
RE starbucks picket line--the relevant detail is "picket line, do not cross." Pass that along. Proclaiming that you are in no danger of doing so because you are too aesthetically pure to let Starbucks coffee pass your lips is...unhelpful and does not give the impression you perhaps imagine it does.

anyway, i started believing this about ART when i had a realization about DEATH. when someone we love trots to the next timeline, we become obsessed with their final moments as if they have more weight. if someone dies in a tragic way, we kind of let that start to define them. this bothers me
