We're currently in the biggest game of the Dollar Auction ever created. Each new frontier model represents a bid, whose cost is paid for at the time that it is trained. But the AI market is a most-capable winner-take-most game.

New: Google has chosen a side in Trump's mass deportation campaign. Google is hosting a CBP facial recognition app to hunt immigrants; no indication Google will remove. At same time Google takes down apps for reporting ICE sightings

“Elite preference” is why everything sucks. Their only vision of the future is shittier versions of their hollow lifestyles — personal drivers (Uber), vacation homes (Airbnb), servants (Door Dash), exec assistants (chatGPT) — while they capture and destroy every democratic institution in their way.
one way to understand why very rich people so often go mad is to realize they have long been surrounded by the kind of persuasive but truth-indifferent sycophantic affirmers that OpenAI and its peers have only recently made accessible to the rest of us.

A reporter should ask Karoline Leavitt whether—if she had to choose just one—she’d pick prayers or body armor for protection if she were being shot at with a semiautomatic weapon.
Karoline Leavitt: "I saw the comments of Ms. Psaki and frankly I think they're incredibly insensitive and disrespectful to the tens of millions of Americans of faith across this country who believe in the power of prayer, who believe that prayer works."

I've seen some posts suggesting day drinking to deal with today's news, and I want to offer some suggestions for how to get through today if you don't want to drink, or use drugs. I'm going to suggest these things as someone who hasn't drank or taken drugs in over 9 years. I hope they help.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

I speak as a family caregiver for my mom, a stroke survivor whom I have the honor of caring for. I’m deeply worried about the future. Cuts to essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP threaten the wellbeing of millions of Americans. We need investment in care—not more harmful cuts.

covid threw into high relief how many working class people are absolutely necessary to keeping society functional, and rather than that sparking a renewed commitment to an economy that rewards such workers, we've seen an elite backlash against even modest increases in their market power
