Finally saw The Muppet Christmas Carol and Michael Caine is now one of my top 3 Scrooges.
Unlike so many other actors, Caine understood that Scrooge must be played softer at the start; not outright evil, but bitter and lonely and miserable.

Happily a longtime friend called me last night to catch up. It made me appreciate friends like that all the more.
The downside of being sentimental about old friends is that some of them have moved on emotionally and leave me on read when I reach out.
Therapy gave me tools to deal with the rejection but I have stopped short of purging the sentimentality itself. It hurts, but I still think it's a virtue.
