This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.

We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.

the correct response to the authoritarian internationale is not isolationism--whether of the "america first" or "hair shirt" varieties--but the founding of a counterforce liberal internationale
the question is not "will the US take precisely the same leadership role as before." we can't. but there is no longer a stable democratic core beyond the reach of authoritarian consolidation, and if we break free of it ourselves we cannot simply retreat from the world while we return to sanity.

The more I think about this Tylenol fiasco, the more upset I get. You're taking away a source of relief for pregnant women. Those are exceedingly rare because women are doing everything they can to protect the life inside them, at great personal cost.
