Hey there, I’m Eric O. Scott. I grew up in a Wiccan coven and have been writing about contemporary Paganism for most of my adult life. I’m the weekend editor at @thewildhunt.bsky.social and my novella, The Lives of the Apostates, was published by Moon Books. I’m also a union organizer in Illinois.

This sounds so dumb that I had to look it up sn explanation. The movie was based on a short story, "The Greatest Gift," which was copyrighted separately. The company that produced the movie secured the film rights for it, obvs, but this was a time when copyright had to be actively renewed ...
This comes round every year. It's not actually Amazon's doing, it's a public domain repackager. And the reason they do this is because the film is public domain... except for Pottersville. So they cut that bit out so they can sell it legally.
So, a version of IT"S A WONDERFUL LIFE on Amazon cuts 22 minutes of the movie including the entire Pottersville sequence.(via @pematson.bsky.social )

I want to go back to the traditional America of It’s a Wonderful Life, where we look out for our immigrant neighbors and help them buy a nice house for their family and goats.

Every year, after months of lethargy, I am seized by Reading Madness in the week between Xmas and New Years.

...possibly this indicates that the thing interfering with me reading more is, uh, going to work.

My Xmas Eve present to myself was finally finishing @sarahebond.bsky.social’s STRIKE: LABOR, UNIONS, AND RESISTANCE IN THE ROMAN EMPIRE, which was super educational and will provide me with plenty of historical anecdotes with which to annoy my union members at trainings in the coming year.

Hell, this made me cry like a child.
I wrote a little thing about "Fairytale of New York" and about hope for a better year, but mostly I wanted to share the rendition of the song played at Shane MacGowan's funeral in 2023 because it's so beautiful. Happy Christmas, I love ya baby. dansinker.com/posts/2025-1...

If you're killing random Jews at a festival in a Australia in the name of anti-zionism, that *is* an attack on Jewish people as a group, because you've decided that Jews and Zionism are synonymous and killing the one is a blow against the other.
So the younger shooter, in a video submitted to the court, claims the shooting was aimed at the Zionist policies of Israel as a state. This is distinct from being an attack against Jewish people as a group. Once again the pro-Zionist coalition and right wing media jumped the gun and got it wrong.
