I can't help but feel as though all this heat over whether Nigel Farage was a racist bigot fifty years ago is a distraction from the same discussion the press and political class continue to dodge: That the party he leads, right now, is a, racist, bigoted, far-right political party.

Incredibly minor point in the grand scheme of the horror of this policy, but this would mean that many women with ILR would be unable to go on maternity leave unless they had a very high salary or an amazing employer package.
The Conservatives have drafted the legislation.

ANY one of the conditions being met leads to ILR being revoked.

If annual income falls below £38,700 for six months (for any reason at all)

The Secretary of State would also have the powers add whatever further conditions they want.

For years, there's been a massive over-emphasis on food miles, and a massive under-emphasis on food type.
By far and away the best dietary decision you can make, for environmental, humanitarian and public health purposes, is to cut out animal products.

Thousands of Londoners have indefinite leave to remain.

They have legal rights and are our friends, neighbours and colleagues, contributing hugely to our city.

Threatening to deport people living and working here legally is unacceptable.

No, this cartoon is not racist obviously...

What it does is tap into the false ideas that the resurgence of the far right is huge and comes from below and this is what the media on the left should counter, pointing to those elites who stoke division

Happy Monday!

Here’s an ancient amber bear carved about 10,000 years ago!

This magical find washed up on a beach at Fanø in Denmark from a submerged Mesolithic settlement under the North Sea.

What a great read.

I think another element of the story is (from what I've heard from those in the sector including the V&A - I don't have first hand experience) that the whole project was pulled off thanks to the overworking and underpaying of a great many people

I've voted for Zack because I think he's the only candidate really capable of challenging the racist, anti-trans, anti-nature politics of Labour and Reform.
I think he'd make real positive change as Green leader, and today I'm allowing myself a tiny bit of optimism that that will happen!

Green Party members - vote at midday!

For every politician and journalist who supported Israel's onslaught, or stayed silent:

This photograph should haunt you for the rest of your life.

You will never scrub the shame away. No future achievement, however great, will ever erase what you helped inflict on Gaza.

Asked about actions he might take against Israel, David Lammy says its not appropriate to go into detail.

Everyone knows what you need to do. End all arms exports. End all trade. End all military assistance. Impose sanctions on the govt & economy. Expel the Israeli ambassador.

Just saw the @bbcnewsuk.bsky.social report on Gaza, children starving to death, their mothers themselves starving and unable to feed them, in which Jeremy Bowen flagged this AFP issue. Unprecedented deliberate use of starvation when there is ample food just a few miles away. Shameful.

Cool cool cool it's not like AI has been shown to be unreliable / biased / extremely fucking racist or anything.

I guess the fact that it is all those things is why it appeals to this bin fire of a govt

Labour are deporting more people than the Tories did. They are supporting a genocide. They are rolling back the rights of trans people. They have cut benefits lower than the Tories. They are selling our government to AI companies. They tried to open deportation centres in Albania instead of Rwanda.

This is classic behaviour these days. Lammy has no actual response to the fundamental points that Malthouse (correctly) makes, so he defaults to tone-policing, despite the fact that Malthouse was actually very polite, level-headed and calm in how he made his point.
Kit Malthouse to Lammy "can he not see his inaction & cowardice is making this country irrelevant? Can he also not see the personal risk to him, given our intl obligations, that he may end up at the Hague because of his inaction?"

Lammy tells Malthouse his language is unbecoming
