Also fixated on vampire fiction, pretty flowers, and general shiny things.

Picked up a random board game at the dollar store. Decided tonight was the night to try it out. Bring Out Yer Dead was surprisingly good considering where we got it.

The intersection of books being banned by people outside the library and those engaged in quiet censorship within the library is the outright banning of Banned Books Week.
What happened in libraries during Banned Books Week?

Turns out, there was a lot of banning of Banned Books Week, period.

A look at what happened across the country and why.

That, plus this week's *extensive* book censorship news.

An article for next semester's class. This explains some of the continuing fallout pretty well.
Private equity destroys 200-year-old book distribution company that libraries around the country rely on and now libraries are having trouble getting new books:

If you and your children are not ready for a particular book, that is okay. It is not okay to limit the access to books, stories, and experiences for other families. Every book is not for everyone, but every book is for someone.

Sometimes it is easy to forget how recent some of the knowledge we take for granted really is. I remember learning this in university and wondering how I missed it in high school geography.

Another example to look into for my acquisitions class. Students are always shocked by the digital prices.
We rightly bitch about library ebook pricing, but how about the fact that Films on Demand wants to charge my library an average of $400 PER EPISODE for Ken Burns’ Civil War series, when I can buy the DVD set for $35?

On this day where librarians consider the closing of Baker & Taylor, I would like to remind you that Sandy Berman still walks this earth and today is his birthday.

Welcome to the Sanford Berman website devoted to the work of librarian Sanford Berman who created an innovative, radical and inclusive catalog which used terms we use when looking for information instead of the 19th century language of the Library of Congress Subject Headings. Berman worked for the Hennepin County library from 1973 until 1999. Sandy continues to create subject headings and works for political and social justice.
