With all of the other nonsense going on, I missed this one. Goodbye, Blue Ribbon Schools.

“States learned they wouldn’t be getting Blue Ribbons after they’d already submitted their picks for this year’s awards.”

With the loss of Blue Ribbon program, Maryland school leaders are on their own
To “return education to the states,” the U.S. Department of Education ended the national Blue Ribbon program. Maryland education leaders need to find a new way to honor their shining schools.

I’ve spent time observing, in person, the after-school academic programs run by the Boys & Girls Clubs mentioned here. They are effective, essential…and their funding was already approved by Congress. The law says they get the $, period. Anything else is stealing hope from children. Children.

I never knew this piece of history! Fun note: Caroline is from Baltimore. Her grandfather was a Hutzler, of local department store fame.
Let's talk about these two department store owners: brother and sister Louis Bamberger and Caroline Bamberger Fuld. From Newark, New Jersey.

They are random people, basically. But in the late 1920s, with fascism taking over Europe, they made a choice that profoundly changed the world: 🧵

This 🧵 is diving into Head Start as its currently on the chopping block in the proposed budget. Head Start is an incredible program that is much more involved and influential than people may realize. And if the regime gets its way, this cut would result in generations of harm.

how Dept of Ed cuts affect kids right now -

Schools had until last Aug to say how they would spend remaining COVID relief $. Some programs they bought are still underway and haven’t been billed yet.

Even though DoEd approved, now they’re saying they won’t pay, leaving schools holding the bag.

And so it begins…the fallout from cutting federal education funds. Sorry kids! Maybe you’ll learn to read next year.

The point is, this agency's work and its money benefits American children. Our kids. Every day.

If we destroy that, what kind of future do we have left? What does that say about how much the federal government values your daughter? Your son?

I hope we never have to find out.

If you attended a public school, or had a kid in public school at between 1976 and today, YOUR FAMILY has directly benefited from the USDOEd's work and their $.

This is the only cabinet-level agency that is dedicated to our children. The administration wants to get rid of all of it.

So has help for English Language Learners.

Millions are beneficiaries of special education programs. Students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, sensory processing disorders...their federal support is gone.

Lots of research, incl the NAEP. This test is one of the few ways to know how US education is improving (or not). I’m not explaining why that’s important - should be obvious. Kids in other nations are out-performing US kids. We know that because of NAEP.

The entire research wing was just axed.
