Change doesn’t happen overnight, but tonight, we saw the tide turn. Let’s keep pushing for the future we believe in.

Teacher to my kid’s class as she was coughing: I’m not feeling well. I hope I don’t give this to all of you!

Y’all. The teacher was not wearing a mask.

I’m sure her “hope” will do the trick though. 🙄

Covid outbreak at local nursing home. 3 residents at first, now 6. One person has moved to hospice care. Staff are wearing, you guessed it . . . baggy blues. Ridiculous. I would be beyond pissed if my loved one lived there. It has to be willful negligence or something at this point, right?!
Defaulting to surgical masks in health care settings in 2025 is one of the most dissapointing examples of reluctance to change despite overwhelming evidence.

Even defaulting to KN95 style would significantly increase protection of the most vulnerable.

Infuriating inertia in the HC industry.

Called 5 places to try to find a child COVID vaccine in rural MN where supposedly there are no limitations as to who can get one. Finally found a grocery store pharmacy 50 minutes away that’s willing to order some for next week. I have high risk kid who should’ve had it already. Ridiculous.

Well, it’s not like we didn’t already know his escalator doesn’t make it all the way to the top . . .

Just had to lie to get my teen a COVID vaccine. I can’t believe this is where we’re at. Sure. She has a mood disorder. Whatever.

ACIP anti-vaxxer member is upset that the ACIP committee was called anti-vax. 😆 Losers.

So far the ACIP public comments are 🔥. Lots of highly-credentialed, well-spoken people (so far) have advocated for continued availability of vaccines. Nice job to the 75 year old woman who told it like it is, too!

Milhoan is now indicating that since COVID19 vaccines don’t always prevent infection, it’s not effective.

The COVID19 vaccine prevents hospitalization and death very effectively. One might argue that this is an important fact.

I’m yelling at my screen during the ACIP meeting. It seems, beyond all rational reasoning, that I might just know more about COVID vaccines than they do at this point — and I’m a social worker.

Well f%#k ABC and Disney. They can go to hell right along with CBS. First Colbert and now Kimmel. 🤬

Week 3 of school & 2 of 4 kids are sick. Covid negative so far for both, and neg strep for one. This sucks. We do everything we can & still end up with sick kids — and that means extra precautions around my high risk kiddo. It’s been a bumpy start to the year even outside of this. I’m tired.

SIL has no problem with a plane full of kids being thisclose to being dropped off in Guatemala — kids that were supposed to be protected.

Also SIL: “Come with me on a church mission trip to Guatemala to help poor children!”

She doesn’t make any connections. Ever. Never ever. None of them do.

Why must you get my hopes up?

You can’t just be out there speculating that he’s dead/dying unless you KNOW.

It’s like dropping hints to a kid all week that they’re going to Disney World & then being like: “Nah. We were just thinking about it. We’re going to the Walmart for groceries instead.”

I remember fighting for vaccines for under 5-year-olds, emailing, calling, and then searching for someplace to find one, etc.

And now, years later, here we f-ing are again except it’s even worse — even many adults can’t get them now.

I’m tired.

Actual conversation from this weekend.

Me: I just really don’t like my town.
Person: Is it the Mexicans?
Me: What? No!
Person: The Somalians?
Me: Are you serious?
Person: *waits for response*
Me: It’s racist MAGA’s I have a problem with. Town is full of them.
Person: *abruptly changes subject*

This makes me happy. More of this, please!

Dental exams are stressful when you’ve got vulnerable people in your household/are vulnerable yourself/just plain don’t want to get sick from random people breathing directly in your face.
I love that my dentist and her whole office mask (n95’s!), along with great ventilation in the dental exam rooms… I worked so hard to find a dentist that was covid conscious and she just happened to be literally around the corner from my house the whole time 🥹🤍

Back to school comes with an astronomical level of stress when you are parent to a medically complex kid.

There’s so much illness & nobody wears a mask when actively ill and unable to stay home.

So my kid (& siblings to protect her) wears one all the time at school.

And that super sucks.

There is no reason to be friends with or put effort into MAGAs. Some people are for me & my family. Some aren’t.

It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than that.

Blood isn’t thicker than politics. Or a family culture that promotes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia & excessive drinking.

Parenting a child w/ a disability comes with its share of amazing, wonderful things. Big picture: positives far outweigh negatives.

Today, however, it comes with significant extra stress and what feels like the beginning of caregiver burnout.

It’s frowned upon to say the 2nd part out loud though.
