Pluribus has some real phone numbers to interact with, and one signs you up for future text messages. Good stuff! But imagine my disappointment when that number just sent me an ad for the show.

A longshot, but really clever - in NC, unaffiliated voters can choose to vote in either major party's primary. And there's a bunch who are unaffiliated.
Kate Barr, a lifelong Democrat, changed her party registration to run in the GOP primary against North Carolina incumbent Rep. Tim Moore.

She says it’s the only way to compete for a gerrymandered seat whose boundaries were drawn to heavily favor Republicans.
This North Carolina Democrat can’t win her district. So she’s running as a Republican.
In her crusade against gerrymandering, Kate Barr is challenging her Republican congressman in the GOP primary to make a point.

The whole premise of Movies Anywhere is you can buy from any platform, and sync across them. But now Youtube took their ball home.

MA gave me peace of mind & enabled comparison shopping, and it sucks to have that gone. I won't be buying any more digital movies.

For the last few years, I've scooped up clearance pumpkins for carving and Home Depot and Lowes. They've always deeply discounted them by this time of the month.

But tonight, a large pumpkin at Home Depot costs $19.

Grocery store pumpkins have been $6-7 all season. What the hell is going on?

"We have everything we need in abundance" - from a local community fridge flyer.

This phrase is burrowing itself deep inside my brain today. What if that was a foundational societal assumption, and we built from there?

When I was a little kid, I listened the crap out of a cassette of vaguely Halloween-themed pop music. I looked it up recently - it was Hallmark's "The Sounds of Halloween": Thriller, Ghostbusters, Monster Mash, and more.

This year I learned just how wrong my little kid memories of it were. 🧵

I've never liked coffee. Then, at Disneyland recently I had an apple cold brew and it was delightful!

Is apple cold brew something a big chain can reproduce? Or what's the best/easy way to enjoy some kind of cold brew at home? I know absolutely nothing about coffee.

Each year I pick a stupid reward points program and play it a few minutes per day like a mobile game. Last year was Google Play Points, this year Bing Rewards.

But Microsoft nerfed the program, so I'm calling the game early for 2025. Short Post Mortem🧵:

Real leadership in libraries means looking your community - including your boss's boss - in the face and saying to them that fewer staff means less services.

There is no way around it. That's the truth of the matter.

The community is either okay with that or not.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.
