As you’re preparing for your Thanksgiving meal, remember the skilled work it took to get that food to your grocery store.

Tell us your favorite Thanksgiving dish, and we can share some of what we know about the work behind the ingredients.

This UFW post is awesome. Scroll for all the images.
Brussels sprouts grow upright on a tough, woody stem. This picture is a partly mechanized harvest, but a crew of workers used machetes to cut off the stalks in the field, while another worker trims off the leaves as he feeds the stalks into the machine. It's grueling work especially when it is hot.

Here is the poblano chile harvest in Santa Clara County. The workers harvest the peppers, then take their full buckets over to a conveyor belt and dump them on it. A worker then directs them into different bins.

There are two methods for cranberry harvest- wet method and dry method. Pictured is the ‘wet harvest’ method where the cranberry bog is flooded and the plants are shaken to dislodge the submerged berries, which float. (Fun fact: in a flooded bog the workers become high ground for the spiders.)

This adorable little acorn squash was harvested by hand with the extremely sharp shears pictured. It takes both strength and skill to work quickly without cutting your fingers.

New: dating a man I am attracted to, interested in, and who has skills— also in the kitchen. Very fun atm. AND he “likes the disruption” of the current admin. Almost certain he voted for it. Can we f and still disagree? People are getting hurt I sd. “People have been hurting for a long time.”

Lest we forget. It’s weird how we forget so much. It’s not at all weird or surprising that musk shows such fucking disregard for the system that made him.
Over the years, Musk and his businesses have received at least $38 billion in government contracts, loans, subsidies and tax credits, often at critical moments, a Washington Post analysis has found, helping seed the growth that has made him the world’s richest person.

I did that thing you do once in a while after the disappointment racks up and your sense of what’s possible dips too low. I switched dating apps. And lo I promptly met someone. Pros: he cooks, he asks questions, he listens. Cons: he lives over an hour away. I have decided I am willing to travel.

This ⬇️ Keep calling!
I've heard a number of people say, "I live in a safe blue district/state--there's no point in calling my reps since they're already on the right side." Yes, there is: You can call and insist that they be among the loudest voices on the issues you care about, since they can afford to be.

Very overwhelmed by news and fire. My attempt to be more withdrawn hasn’t panned out. I decided to seal off the already faded ghosting Irish man. He wasn’t a waste of time. AND we weren’t a match. There was some projecting going on about who I was. Considering the state of the US, it was untenable.

I give him the benefit of the doubt: he talks so much because he’s nervous. But don’t you make this mistake. Ask questions! Find out something amazing about the person you’re on a date with! Why not? Your stories will still be there when you return. But the chance to connect might not be.

While I was in DC I heard Carter put solar panels on the Dept. of Energy. Then Reagan had them removed. Anyone know if this is true?
Jimmy Carter is a hero of the renewable energy revolution, and if we’d listened to him we could have gotten where we are now decades earlier.
