Now that the Sept and Oct data are (belatedly) in, it looks like 2025 will be the second warmest year in the record (~80% probability). The last three years are in a class of their own.

With no definite policies in place to accelerate Canada's emissions reductions, I think our reputation is leaning towards a decline. I hope Carney et al don't plan on trying to use offsets.

This is one of the most endangered mammals in the world – there are fewer than 400 alive in the wild right now – so it is pretty special to watch this mom and her two pups emerge from their burrow. Kids will be kids, no matter how rare your species!

For years, people argued that there's no point in taking climate action unless China is onboard. I'm at a COP30 event where Chinese government officials and renewable industry reps are outlining the fast-paced renewable energy transition and long-term carbon neutrality plan. The story has flipped.

15+ years old, but still VERY relevent — and if we had acted 15 years ago, the “better world” we’d be creating would be a LOT better & easier to reach. There are real consequences we’re just starting to see to not heeding this cartoon a lot sooner.

Even worse if we don’t heed it now. #ClimateCrisis

Incredibly weak statement from Canada at COP30. It says “effective action starts with detailed planning” and points to this week’s climate competitiveness plan as proof of Canada’s efforts. Weird given that plan has no target, no GHG modelling, dismantles policies policies and calls LNG low carbon.

Minister of Finance Peter Bethlanfalvy just responded by citing Prime Minister Mark Carney: "it's not about targets it's about results."

To my knowledge, Canada still has emissions-reduction targets. Ontario no longer will.
A month ago, Ontario’s Auditor General told Doug Ford’s government to create a public, accountable climate plan with emissions-reduction targets — as courts have also ordered.

Today, the government’s fall economic statement eliminates all legal obligation to do so. #onpoli

COUNTRY ANALYSIS: We have downgraded #Canada’s rating to "Highly insufficient". It has weakened policy ambition, implementation is slow; there's a widening gap between current emissions levels and its 2030 target. This despite 2025 seeing second worst wildfire season in history.
