Europe & Ukraine can keep flattering Trump, hoping that he won't stop the US selling weapons to UA or Europe, or supplying intelligence. They must not for an instant think that Trump is on their side. This is basically like Czechoslovakia being forced to give up its defences in the Sudetenland.
Trump is trying to give Russia exactly what they want & call it a ‘peace deal.’ It’s in fact a guarantee for a bigger war.
Donbas is Ukraine’s main line of defense. The region is heavily fortified & holds Russia back from attacking the rest of Ukraine, & from there the EU.

"Trust us Ukraine, if you just withdraw from your best fortified positions, we will stop helping Putin advance his goals and start supporting you for reals.

Just like we already committed to supporting your full territory in the Budapest Memorandum. But give up some land and we *really* mean it."

We can all get things wrong, but if I had been this consistently and catastrophically wrong about such important issues I don't think I could carry on publishing my opinions every week.

I'd want to go away and think about how I'd so badly misunderstood the things I write about.

Far too little opposition and far too much of that little opposition was "well invading Greenland is a distraction from cost of living issue" for the trust to ever be restored in any meaningful way, in my view.
I don't think even American liberals and anti-Trump conservatives really understand how much work Trump's successors in Washington will need to do to restore European trust in the United States

Trump's utterance that force would not be used against Greenland has no more weight than any other of his utterances, and it certainly does not amount to him "ruling out" the use of force in any meaningful way.

Disappointing to see so many news outlets place that construction on what he said.

We hear it all the time:

Since the turn of the 2010s, thanks to the rise of tech, the US has pulled ahead economically.

This idea is everywhere from Washington to Davos—and it's paralyzing Europe

But it's simply not true!

Let's look at what's really happening, with charts🧵

Which should be enough, but a finnish sniper would be nice just to be absolutely certain.
The Nordics are going all in on Greenland.

Norway sent two (2) guys and the Swedish guys are unarmed

Still, both are better than the non-existing contribution from Finland

This shows that despite different languages, national legislation and a bundle of other challenges, economies within the EU can match and even beat the worlds largest economy.

Brexit demonstrates that going it alone makes it much, much harder. Even for such a large and well-functioning state as UK.
The story of European vs US economic development is very different once you take demographics into account.

The eurozone *beat* the US in GDP growth per working age population in the period 1998 - 2017:
