James Van Der Beek (1977-2026) 🤍

I’ll always remember James Van Der Beek as the voice of Pazu in the English dub of one of my favorite Studio Ghibli films: Castle in the Sky. To this day, it’s among my favorite adventure films. It’s devastating that he died so young. Cancer sucks. May he rest in peace.

Castle in the Sky is my favorite Studio Ghibli film. Expect a Letterboxd entry on it in the near future for its 40th anniversary.

Thank you, James Van Der Beek, for bringing Pazu to life in Disney’s dub. So sad your life had to be over at 48. Cancer sucks.

Paramount is like that creepy stalker that keeps hassling WB, until they cave in and date them.

At this WB should file a restraining order on Paramount. Lol
Paramount is adding more financial incentives to try to convince Warner Bros shareholders to let them buy the studio.

• They will give shareholders $650M per quarter if the takeover isn’t done by end of 2026

• They will pay the $2.8 billion termination fee on Netflix’s deal

AI-Gen is dying, repost to make it die faster :)
Sora 2 apparently cost something like $5 billion to run every year and so far made OpenAI around $1.4 million.

I’m very disappointed to hear that Sony Pictures Animation has scrapped Matt Braly’s film. Honestly, I’m baffled they scrapped it thinking it “wasn’t commercial” given that’s what they sold KPop Demon Hunters to Netflix and that blew up big. I hope Matt gets to make a movie soon.

Damn it! I was really interested in this one! This sounded like it could’ve been really special!
Matt Braly has revealed that his feature film, co-written with Rebecca Sugar, has been scrapped at Sony Pictures Animation.

The project centered on a young boy who embarks on an emotional journey into a fantastical realm of Thai spirits, hoping to find a cure for his illness.

It's been five years since it was revealed that Blue Sky Studios would be shuttering and I'm still not over it. It's still a massive loss for animation and I know they really could've shined this decade with ambitious films like Nimona had they endured. I'll forever miss them.

Little did I know when I went to see Spies in Disguise in the theater back in January 2020 that the studio would be shut down a year later. Their legacy continues to live on and Blue Sky never dies.
February 10, 2026 at 1:12 AM
It really sucked for many reasons. They were one of the rare major animation studios on the east coast. 450 talented artists lost their jobs. And they were shut down right as they were making some of their best work with Spies in Disguise and what would be their magnum opus Nimona.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. It was a massive shock having grown up with Blue Sky’s films like Robots, Horton Hears A Who, and The Peanuts Movie. They were industry trailblazers that experimented with what would become the future of the medium.
5 years ago today, Disney announced they would be shutting down Blue Sky Studios.

The decision to shut the studio down is still a travesty. Disney should be ashamed. I feel bad for you and the rest of the Blue Sky alum knowing the studio could've done more this decade (Nimona was proof, I'm at least glad that was finished). Blue Sky will never die and I'm still wishing you well.
