Always give me the odds!📊

Climate change communication is crucial to raising awareness and motivating action. In the context of breaching the limits set out by the Paris Agreement, we argue that climate scientists should move away from point estimates and towards reporting probabilities.
To coincide with #COP30, we updated the dashboard for "Breaching 1.5C: Give Me the Odds". Latest odds show we’ll likely breach 1.5C soon, but decisive action can delay & shorten time above the target. Every month matters, let's act now everval.github.io/Dashboard-Br...

Sorry @diabrowser.com I gave it a go, but vertical tabs are a must in this day and age. It is the Browser Company own fault, they got me used to them with @arcbrowser.bsky.social

Amusing how 99% of people using LLMs forget how these things work:

They are advanced probability machines. They generate the next most likely token (word) based in the input and their training.

Under the hood, it’s a giant matrix multiplication that has eerily good output.

Working with global temperature anomalies?

Tired of keeping track of all the links to the different sources?

Frustrated by the fact that each uses a different baseline than the suggested by the Paris Agreement?

Want to highlight how El Niño affects global temperatures?

I have the solution!

When your friend’s baby needs to understand class struggle early.
No such thing as the ‘middle class’—just a ruling class and a working class. And the sooner we teach that, the better. This is how we raise class conscious children. 👶🏾☭

🌍 Paris Agreement Probabilities: Dashboard Update 📊
I’ve just updated the dashboard that estimates the monthly probabilities of breaching the climate goals set by the Paris Agreement to include the latest available data.
In addition, the code has now been improved to automatically fetch new data.

Excited to share my latest research article, “Robust estimation of the CO2 airborne fraction under measurement errors”. Airborne fraction estimation can be prone to measurement errors, particularly in early years due to unreliable tools. We present robust estimates that account for these errors.
