The New York Times quickly sending out Douthat to argue that Mamdani’s victory doesn’t really matter is so predictable it borders on self-parody.

Remember, folks: Every time the Right wins an election, it’s an undeniable expression of the will of the people. If a lefty wins, it’s just a blip.

This is a call for ideological purity disguised as a criticism of ideological purity.
Folks demanding political / ideological purity fail to see that this is no longer a movement belonging to the left / liberals. This is an opposition against fascism. By definition it must be big tent. Failure to grasp this: see divided oppositions in Eastern Europe as your failed examples.

THREAD
In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

There’s a lot of criticism that can be lodged at NoKings I’m sure, and it’s worth questioning agendas of leadership always, but “these aren’t protests, these are rallies” is the most annoying, petty, hair-splitting bullshit I’ve ever heard in my life.

Joaquin Cosio is the backbone of NARCOS: MEXICO, and it's one of the best acting performances in any TV show ever.

Re-watching NARCOS MEXICO and the editing on Episode 3 is exceptional.

I don’t appreciate rank editorialising in media. Stick to the facts. We can’t read Cruz’s mind, so drop the ‘apparent blunder’ and ‘awkward gaffe’. Cruz said ‘stop attacking pedophiles’.

Anyone who votes to end birthright citizenship as it is understood now, in defiance of clear law and the tradition they claim to value?

They are voting to create a permanent underclass of rightness, stateless people in the United States. They are voting to bring back slavery.

There is no measured way to say what I am about to say.

If the Supreme Court agrees with the Trump administration to end birthright citizenship, we must end this current Supreme Court.

I do not say this lightly.

This is it, essentially. The core of it. The goal of ICE detention in the mass deportation system is to make people give up their case without fighting; to have an officer say “if you want to see a judge and plead your case, you’re going to be jailed for months and months, so why not give up now?”
Advocates say the Trump administration’s goal is clear: make the pre-deportation process so punitive that targets give up and leave voluntarily. The administration and its allies see the detention policy as a corrective to decades of catch-and-release policies www.politico.com/news/2025/09...
Trump’s new detention policy targets millions of immigrants. Judges keep saying it’s illegal.
The administration says the sweeping detentions are a key prong of Trump’s deportation strategy.

What we're seeing in the "don't sign up for protests" discourse is what Paulo Freire described as the convert's failure to trust the knowledge of the oppressed. As the convert tries to stand in solidarity with the oppressed, they refuse to let go of a world where they were the authority by default.

If all you care about is interpersonal, one-on-one physical assault, you must incorporate the fact that the speech-acts of politicians or ‘influencers’ are causally efficacious, e.g. when Boris Johnson slandered Muslim women in the papers, physical assaults of Muslim women shot through the roof
"words are not violence"

Is an unambiguously fascist thing to say and has been for a very long time now.

The whole point of it is to avoid engaging with what's being said by the people your words are hurting. It is a deliberate "playing dumb" to make marginalised people seem unreasonable.
