Me: We do like to feed people
FM: I've noticed that. When I go to a republican meeting, everyone buys their own meal
Me: ... this analogy feels a little too on the nose

Nanotyrannus is real.

For years I’ve considered many mid-sized gracile tyrannosaurs to be juvenile T. rex.

But I was wrong. This stunning new skeleton of a mature long-armed small tyrannosaur is clearly a different species.

Isn’t science fun?!

Analysis of Montana fossils shows the battling predator was a fully grown Nanotyrannus, not a young T rex

I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
America... boy, I dunno.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Fewer grad students means less science, but many STEM PhD programs in the US are cutting back on admissions this year due to federal funding uncertainties. Words by me for @nature.com:

The seriousness with which faculty and students view cheating is so completely different.
Faculty: you're destroying the fabric of academic pursuit that is the foundation of a university education
Students: oops, my bad

This is a one-time bonus (I think? Maybe? The details are non-existent), rather than a raise. But it will certainly be used to delay raises for faculty, who are currently working without a contract
The California State University system will seek a state loan of $144 million that it’ll have a year to repay at no interest, even though current projections show the system will have to add to its deficit to repay the debt. https://cal.news/4qeBM5t
