I believe the reason was "make content."
NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

Economics of air transport in Europe
Challenging assumptions on the economic benefits of air transport growth

Expanding airports like Madrid, London Heathrow or Brussels under the assumption that more flights boost growth is outdated & unjustified.

Smarter transport planning should focus on improving rail networks & tourism infrastructure to prioritise low environmental impact and quality over quantity.

NEW: Air traffic growth is not a guarantee of economic growth, despite industry claims.

These claims, often echoed by governments to justify airport expansion, are undermined by new research.

NEW: Global fossil fuel use will peak before 2030 – unless 'stated policies' are abandoned

Contra some terrible news coverage, IEA World Energy Outlook shows coal near peak, oil peaking by 2030 & gas by 2035 (see chart)

What's going on? 🧵 + cool charts

Wow - this is a good one. In most regions, power grid system costs are the worst in the fossil-fuel-explosion scenario - in Europe and China, it's cheapest in the 'net zero' scenario

> grid costs are way lower than costs saved on fuel purchasing!!

i am very aware that there is plenty of instability in other European countries too, especially France Right now. So no need to @ me. But Starmer has a huge majority and could just get it together. And Europe could really use a stable UK right now.

Interesting comparison. Brexit was the raising of non tariff barriers, leaving the EU's Single Market and Customs Union, and, to a first approximation, unchanged terms with the rest of the world. It was done in a relatively orderly, legalised fashion.
I wonder if the United States can learn anything from the last time a major industrialized country decided to isolate itself from the rest of the world?

Almost a decade after the Brexit vote, GDP in the UK is around 6-8% lower relative to peer countries. (Source: www.nber.org/papers/w34459)

I love this IEA factoid: 80% of global energy growth occurs in sunny regions.

They can cheaply leverage solar, now a dispatchable resource with batteries. The IEA shows global manufacturing overcapacity for solar and battery, showing a LOT of upside to solar growth💪

This is one of the better things written abt Trump's threat to the Beeb.

One thing I've seen no one note: the similarity of THIS threat to the lawsuit against the NYT.

The NYT is especially nice bc Trump's demand went UP even after he got reelected in spite of their journalism.
