It is the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. This is my uncle, John B. Newberry. A member of the Raider Battalion during World War II, he was in the Pacific for 3 years...Enlisted at 18 and home at 21. That Raider patch on his arm was worn by only a few. Semper Fi.

Thinking of my dad, James S. Newberry, on Veterans Day. Enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor. Overseas for 3 years. North Africa, Sardinia, Sicily, Italy, and France. Won enough money playing poker on the troop ship home to pay for college and all of his law school. Best man I ever knew.

We’re going to win this fight, and restore our democracy and the rule of law, as we have done many times before.
They wont give up, of course, they never have, and in time yet another generation will be called upon to lay it all on the line.

It is the one unelected branch of our tripartite system, the judges, that will decide whether we remain a nation of laws.
So far, they have been steadfast, with the exception of the Supreme Court.
Those 6 judges will torch our republic if not stopped,

People rightly blaming Republicans for ending health care subsidies and their rates going up to $1000 a month and more.
But why are the insurance companies charging these ridiculous rates getting a free pass?

Trump voting farmers getting hammered every which way from Trump policies, it almost seems like he’s purposely trying to put them out of business. They’re baffled.

Whether a rock can be knapped or not depends on the silicon content. Silicon splits along molecular lines. Is why the flint blade is sharper than steel. 3 million years ago we began the rise of mankind with silicon tools, and full circle,we are again in the age of silicon

I spent the morning knapping. Turning fine grey Texas flint into blades. I’m not very good at it, but it’s meditative.
It struck me that our entire global civilization was bootstrapped from that flint edge, everything we’ve built, resting at the bottom of it all on that first tool.
