As the Trump administration has sent Border Patrol, National Guard and other federal forces to U.S. cities, it can be difficult to tell them apart, or to understand what powers each agency has. Here's a guide.
Who Are the Federal Forces Behind Trump’s Mass Deportations and Crime Crackdown?
As President Trump deploys ICE, Border Patrol, the National Guard and other forces to U.S. cities, here’s how to tell them apart — and what their powers are.

Both the U.S. marshal and the immigrant were shot by federal officers. You’d never know that from this headline.

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

The muted response to Israel’s attack on the Qatari capital simply reflects reality: the Gulf states do not have much influence over Israel. Instead, they will look to pressure its closest ally—America
Arab states’ response to Israel’s strikes on Doha has been mostly angry bombast
But they want Donald Trump to choose: them or Israel

Economist Amartya Sen won a Nobel in part for asking: Why did India avoid the mass famines that killed tens of millions in China? His answer: a free press. Journalists could expose suffering and shame governments into action. Silence and avoidance, by contrast, can be deadly.

Definitely this. It took less than a week to go from 'we're just exercising our unique, temporary authority to police DC as a federal district' to 'Chicago is next' without anyone saying 'oh so just forget the Constitution then?'

That was one of the most batshit press conferences of Trump's public life. He brandished a photo of Putin and promised to deploy the US military to occupy Chicago, New York, and San Francisco. A sane country would be moving toward impeachment and removal right now.

Thanks to @actonclimateus.bsky.social for confronting Lee Zeldin at the budget hearing today.
For over 50 years, the EPA delivered on its mission to protect health and climate.
This administration has quickly undone decades of work: firing experts, rolling back regulations, denying science.
"EPA's actions have made families worse off, ignored science, and eroded America's trust in your agency all for the benefit of polluters."

Thank you @senwhitehouse.bsky.social for calling out Lee Zeldin's shameful #PollutersFirst Agenda, which is illegally cancelling grants that protect us.

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.
