Former Conservative MP Rahim Jaffer has filed his notice of intent to run in the October municipal election. He’s expected to formally announce his candidacy for Mayor of Edmonton next week.

Jaffer was the MP for Edmonton Strathcona from 1997 to 2008 and now runs a restaurant on Whyte Ave.

I see nothing in the Liberal Party platform that could improve safety for people who use drugs, but plenty to make their lives more difficult & dangerous.

Reads to me like doubling down on drug war failures: more cops w/ more powers, harm reduction unmentioned. Alberta model goes federal.

This story leaves out critical context. The issue is not that the UCP govt is merely funnelling interview requests from Alberta's Auditor General through a lawyer. The issue is that the lawyer or a senior ministry official must be present when civil servants are interviewed. 1

CASE UPDATE: I finally have a court date! The judge couldn't make a scheduled week of pre-trial in December which delayed everything
April 28 - May 2 is pre-trial applications
September 22 - 26 is pre trial applications
Nov. 27 is jury selection
December 1 - 12 is the trial
