ICE rank and file aren't too pleased with with how things are going. Experienced agents hate the gestapo bullshit and say the new recruits are all idiots.
“I think it’s time to pull out of Minnesota, that battle is lost," a Border Patrol agent said in a private chat I obtained:

All that post-9/11 legislation that lets someone's rights evaporate if the government labels them a terrorist looking real great eh
ICE agent asked why he's taking pictures of a legal observer's car, replies: "Cuz we have a nice little database and now you're considered a domestic terrorist. So have fun with that."

This is why mandatory upzoning near transit stops is a poor substitute for defanging and declawing NIMBYs more broadly.

Too many useful projects have been killed or scaled back because a few wealthy karens were mildly inconvenienced and that needs to stop being possible.
L.A. Metro, the main transit operator for Los Angeles, just voted to oppose SB 79, a law legalizing the construction of housing near stations. You can't make this stuff up. Legislators should remember this the next time they come to Sacramento begging for more money.

Crazy old man is really committed to being a walking advertisement for tort reform, among many other things.

(for those who can't read 🇮🇹, he's suing JP Morgan for $5 billion for closing his accounts after 1/6)

I honestly find it kind of crazy how much money some people are willing to pay for rare sports card inserts.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like the entire value of rare inserts comes from the thrill of pulling one from a pack. Buying them feels kinda pathetic.

New pet peeve: people linking to Instagram posts from news outlets instead of linking directly to the article.

Some of us don't have accounts on that putrid site and thus can't actually read the full text of posts there.

You know how invading Russia in winter has never ended well for anyone who has attempted it?

Maybe don't invade Minnesota in winter either.

Paige Thomas, 26 and boyfriend Dexter Livingstone, 28, are frequently overheard from behind their closed door groaning, sighing and shouting “fuck yes, harder,” in an act described by ear-witnesses as “heartwarming”.

Okay why does the #protomen #bandcamp site still list Act III as being for pre-order with "releases January 9th"? It's Jan 12th. I expected to have a digital copy of the liner notes on the stated release date and I am rapidly becoming a dissatisfied customer that 3 days later I still do not.

Two random not really related thoughts of the morning:
1) MAGfest was fun and I'm glad I came for it for the... sixth time I think? 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2024, 2026. Yeah, six.
2) The Admirals Club at DCA is dated. Not enough outlets.

Placing candles on a public sidewalk as a memorial where someone was killed, famously a federal crime requiring police intervention 🤨
Right after Renée Good’s disgusting murder, a ICE goon was filmed kicking her memorial candles.
Absolutely vile.

So, I remember being taught in civics class in high school that the president can deploy the military for up to 90 days without congressional approval. I get that people are mad but I'm not sure that what happened last night actually violates US law?

Apparently it is not possible to check the balance on a Target gift card without creating an account. There is no technical reason why this should be necessary, they just want your personal info.

So there's another example of a company being assholes about something because they can.

Hot take: PLSS has contributed significantly to ruining cities that grew within it.

A square mile grid is great for managing farms but very poorly suited to building a city around because of how it gets you 4, 6, 8 lane arterials spaced every mile with a lack of good thru routes in between.

Since, well, King Wenceslas was looking out upon one belonging to a guy named Stephen.
