ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

Achilles Papapetrou, a giant of the field, was *furious* when he saw his colleagues ignoring Kerr's announcement.

He stood and demanded the crowd's attention, noting he had tried and failed to solve the problem for 30 years. Did they not understand they were hearing about a major discovery? (7/n)

Hot take time: (science) journalism's expectation of infallibility sets it up to fail.

Rare corrections should be an expected part of this work — not a reason to melt onto the floor in a puddle of shame.

Science learns from mistakes, and scicomm is more trustworthy when it reflects that.

I kind of like the idea that FIFA is operating as a shadow Nobel Prize committee. Altman gets the FIFA prize for economics. Those Russians who built the robot that flamed out onstage get the FIFA prize for physics. Nuzzi gets the FIFA prize for literature.

She was eventually let go, per David Goodhue of the Miami Herald, who also took this footage:
