It's also pretty trivial to make the #emacs bibtex-mode linkify eprints (it already linkifies DOIs) so all you have to do is click or hit enter to open the arXiv or journal paper

Just made it so I can M-x browse-url on an arXiv identifier in #emacs, and it will open that arXiv paper in the browser!

Neato! As a point of reference, this is the watch I sent out for repair and made me think about replacing:

I'm sad to report that Rainer (Rai) Weiss passed away yesterday at age 92. Rai developed the design for LIGO, he and Kip got it funded, trained countless researchers, and received the 2017 Nobel Prize. Rai always had time for students and treated us as equals. May his memory be a blessing

Ok #MathSky, what's the fundamental group of the complement to this toy? Each of the beads is a filled torus. There are 3 yellow loop pieces on the red track, and 3 blocks stacked on that same far side of the red track.

Last night I was feeling like a grad student as I was deriving the coefficients l/(l+1) and (2l-1)/(2l+1) in this formula (from Blanchet+Damour 1986):

Very scruffy physicist checking in. Most of yesterday was spent dealing with downed tree branches from a big storm, still more cleaning left to do today

We need more illustrations like this in the physics literature ⚛️🧪

Bonus: here's an animation I generated showing how the sausage was made. Each frame is one commit from the paper repo.
