Another fantastic @aaslala.bsky.social National conference in the books. Always such an amazing feeling being surrounded by fellow school librarians, especially when some are your best friends. Thanks St. Louis.

The coffin bookcase is a work in progress. We’re getting there, though.

A massive thank you to @katchowrites.bsky.social for an incredible school visit yesterday! An amazing author, presenter, and person. Fellow librarians, you’ve GOT to get her in for a visit if you can. Could not recommend any higher.

No one is USING AI. They are TRAINING AI. No LLM is ready to be fully deployed. It's all early beta testing they are trying to convince you is actually a product. It is nowhere near its target goals for its intended uses. People aren't paying to use it; they're subsidizing its training. It's a scam.

I used the Library of Congress Citizen DJ to make this beat and a recent graduate wrote a library rap. Check it out here! on.soundcloud.com/WmCC2m7y3gBg...

Hey fellow #librarians! I’ve received grants for well over $3 million over the past ten years, and just received $375,000 more. As you line up your yearly conferences, I would love to come talk about grant writing and community-engaged learning in libraries!

Longtime side quest achieved: I’m now a certified notary public. Here to assist if you need something notarized or would like for me to officiate your wedding with the power vested in me by the State of Tennessee.

@johngreensbluesky.bsky.social A local high school that was destroyed by Hurricane Helene has completely lost its book collection. Do you think you could help supply a classroom set of The Fault In Our Stars for them? They need 25 copies. Thank you so much for any consideration you can provide.

When rumors of banning LGBTQ+ books hit the library board in a small Louisiana town, @librarianjones.com took action, facing death threats. For her, silence was never an option.

“Hell hath no fury like a librarian scorned,” she writes. Join us at 11aET for the latest #VelshiBannedBookClub. #Velshi

Students have internalized the message that "school is work." The thing is, we know work sucks, too, and most of the time it sucks on purpose to protect existing hierarchies of wealth & power. Students who repeat to us that "school is work" have already internalized those hierarchies. 😬
I became a teacher in 1987 because I hated public school. I left in 2022 because not only didn't we reform, but we doubled down.

We no longer prepare students for what they will actually be doing, and therefore, we are irrelevant to them.
In a national survey of over 21,000 students, "tired", "stressed", and "bored" were the most common words students used to describe how they feel at school.

In an in-depth follow-up with 472 students, "75% of all feelings students reported...were negative."

Listen, America is a weird, tacky, frequently bizarre place, but the best of it is like Dolly Parton and puts that shit in service to the world. You do not mess with Dolly. People will come out of the woods and cut you. *I* will come out of the woods and cut you.
they came for Dolly. we ride at dawn.
