And here’s another conundrum. A grad student on the job market could do a hotel room interview without paying the heavy AHA fees. When they created the cattle pen system in the conference hotel you had to pay to get in. How much was safety and how much $$$

I turned down a campus visit because the three old white male professors in the hotel room took the three chairs and left me sitting on the unmade bed. At least the chair was appalled when I told him why I had no desire to visit this prestigious university
If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

I don’t understand how I can feed my cats the same & one is tiny & skinny & the other keeps getting stuck in a hole in the couch.

Love working in their collection. The absolutely nicest archivists.
I always allow students to bring emergency kids and pets to class. If I know I walk in with colored pencils and lots of paper and ask them to draw the lesson. With babies and pets other students are quick to take over hugging duties and no lesson time is missed. People focus more.

There is so much candy in my neighborhood I gave it up a couple of years ago. Now pick up toys on sale. This year tiny tubs of slime and play dough, small plastic sharks and dinosaurs, and little cars. And glow sticks to put on kids on dark street. Most popular stop in the neighborhood.
Halloween candy is so expensive I'll be handing out One Musketeer, A Reeses Piece, and Nerd

When I summered in main the kitchen porch had a lounge and lots of feeders. I was working my way thru the John Burroughs collection and chippies would climb up and check my pockets for nuts and newly fledged hummingbirds felt safe resting on my toes. Burroughs came alive for me.
A hummingbird just touched my nose and I think I’ve reached peak park ranger status.
