What is painfully obvious in these moments isn't simply that the person alleging to lead this country is a terrible human being; it is that anyone left still defending him, applauding him, justifying him, celebrating him, probably is too.

It should go without saying, but the president has no authority to do this, and anyone reporting the story needs to say as such.

One of whom presented a Russian capitulation document as a US peace plan. That’s the headline. We need headlines that are true and not news jargon that washes out the basic facts.
President Donald Trump’s demand that Ukraine sign a deal by Thanksgiving appears to have softened as he leaves some of the most important details of the peace plan in the hands of his envoys, one of whom was just embroiled in a high-profile phone leak. https://wapo.st/481ZdYG
Trump steps back from Ukraine peace process, sends out envoys
Envoy Steve Witkoff, who in new phone leaks appears to have advised Russia on negotiations, heads to Moscow next week to discuss the peace plan.

"The MAGA movement has always been defined by faith and loyalty: Faith in Donald Trump and his power to remake the world, and loyalty toward him in all things, even when his words and actions might lead some to doubt. Now, however, their faith is being tested and their loyalty is wavering."
Why MAGA is coming apart at the seams
Turns out they're not in it for Trump, they're in it for themselves.

My god, I could write a dissertation on how demented just these two paragraphs of New York Times coverage of the DC shooting are.

The details of the shooting begin with Trump sending troops to do law enforcement in a city with plummeting crime. How does that "dovetail neatly" with anything he says?

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.

This is Nazism. And the only reason some folks cannot see it is because they, themselves, are also dangerous fascists. This may be the most un-American statement ever uttered by a man currently serving as co-President of the United States. It spits in the face of everything America is.

Thomas Chatterton Williams & co are desperately flogging "the work right" to justify their focus on the left. The more obvious parallel is that the right is obsessed with a form of identity politics that far outstrips anything you see on a college campus, and with much more radical policy goals.

They should all walk out when he tells a reporter "Quiet, Piggy," or shouts "YOU'RE STUPID" at another.
