As a Jewish faculty member at one of these institutions, I am saying right now, in the clearest tones possible: not in my name. This violent exploitation of Jews as an alibi for achieving Fascist ends is itself textbook antisemitism.
The Ed. Department's Office for Civil Rights sent letters to 60 additional institutions "warning them of potential enforcement actions" for "violations relating to antisemitic harassment and discrimination" including Harvard, Brown, Stanford, Princeton, UNC, and several UC's

While there are some aspects of this EO that could be promising, like focusing research on prevention as opposed to reactive medicine, there are a lot of concerning specifics. I highlight here just two.

Science is absolutely key to the US's success but this government's intention to now dramatically reduce the part of the federal grants that go to the university (in addition to the researchers; the "indirects") is like removing the unseen roots of a tree and expecting it to continue to flourish.

Is this our line in the sand? How can we review NIH applications knowing they specifically exclude members of our community?
The members of the review panel should refuse to serve unless the applications are reinstated.

Reducing the indirect rate on NIH grants to 15% will kill biomedical and health research in the US. I'm not exaggerating here. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

This is an insane move for NIH to make when the obvious answer is to review all the F grants this cycle as a single pool.
My student's diversity F31 has been pulled from study section even though it's the SAME APPLICATION as regular F31s, normally reviewed together in the same panel. Throwing out all the applications from URMs while the ones from white/privileged students get to be reviewed is blatant discrimination.
The CSR comm I'm on just pulled all Diversity F grants from the current review cycle. These apps are reviewed alongside (and by the same criteria) as all other F grants. So, instead of helping these trainees, they will actually be punished by having their grant reviews delayed at least 1 cycle !?!?

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.
