Just another cat on the internet. I chew wires, fix things, and spend way too much time thinking about computers, airplanes, old cars, and safety. No, I’m not from Iceland, I just love the name.

This is the end of science in the US it is a MASSIVE crackdown an literally everyone this racist bullshit would stop basically all science in its tracks and allow the administration to deny funding to basically whoever they wanted to

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”
U.S. Congress considers sweeping ban on Chinese collaborations
Researchers speak out against proposal that would bar funding for U.S. scientists working with Chinese partners or training Chinese students

As much as ‘artificial intelligence’ &%^€s up, maybe we should just call it ‘digital stupidity.’

Machines can’t be stupid, of course, but the people foisting them on us sure seem to be.

Jeez, just accept that binary sex is a myth, leave people alone to figure out who they are, and offer them affirming surgery on their timeline and terms if it would give them gender euphoria. It’s not hard.

Stop trying to police other people’s bodies. Let people be free.

The Democraps—in the Senate or otherwise—are not going to save us. Not even Mamdami will, for all the good things he says. We need to be making strike committees and organizing food distribution because saving each other’s lives is going to take direct action that eliminates oligarchs’ power.

You know the olympics banning trans women entirely is about politics and not fairness because there are trans women who never went through male puberty and thus could not possibly have the advantages transphobes spuriously claimed.

"Are there even any-" it doesn't matter. Banning the few trans athletes isn't the point. The point, from Trump's ban on trans people in government to Britain's bathroom ban to Newsom's sports ban, is to make sure everyone knows trans women are OTHER and to act accordingly to us in their daily lives.

Deliberate deadnaming and misgendering are assault: they can cause intense distress for the target. Assault doesn’t cease to be assault just because the perp really wants to express themselves through assault.

A competent opposition party could make transphobia absolutely toxic for the GOP.
THE MAJORITY of money spent by Winsome Earle-Sears and outside groups in Virginia went to anti-trans ads. The GOP needs a new playbook after tonight. Voters are tired of this song.

dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

Great thread.
It feels as if the dust is starting to settle about the use and value of LLMs in education.

Basically, they are being promoted HARD by people who don’t really understand the purpose of education.

That may sound simplistic, but it isn’t. The purpose of education is easy to lose a grasp on.

While I have some antipathy toward states as a form of social organization, I think a bare minimum I might accept for the end of the Trump regime is a new reconstruction that purges white suprematists and their legacy.
