Hey #streptomyces #natprod fans:
1. What is your favourite agar for growing really thick and dense aerial mycelial lawns?
2. How many spores would you inoculate on one 🧫 for thick and dense lawns?

A colleague received proofs of an accepted manuscript, and the "proofing process" clearly involved running the text through ChatGPT. Their voice has been erased, and errors introduced. This is from a supposedly reputable publisher. Anyone else been put through this particular form of hell? #MicroSky

A new bench at JIC in memory of Helen Kieser. She moved to Norwich with David Hopwood in the 1960s and was instrumental in establishing the Streptomyces group and Molecular Microbiology @johninnescentre.bsky.social. Hard to overstate her importance to the #streptomyces field and community.

“Writing an essay is hard because it forces you to use your brain in ways you haven't before…Your job is not to turn in completed assignments; it's to learn how to think. Turning in completed assignments can help you learn how to think, but only if you're the one who completed them.”

Interesting read indeed
I think there are some good points in the article. Great to hear someone admit to the effect of hands-off approach US took during early 2000's and its absolutely devastating aftermath.

Computer algorithms have designed highly efficient synthetic enzymes from scratch.

The resulting enzymes catalyze a chemical reaction that no known natural protein can execute, achieving a reaction rate and efficiency similar to naturally occurring enzymes.
