While I have nothing to base this off of, it seems that a a lot of the “complexity” people describe around human cognition is because the the chemical, electrical, and physiological processes don’t map onto how we describe ourselves as thinking.

We don’t need big, dumb, computerized humans. That’s not a thing we’ve been trying to create and that’s not why there’s any hype around LLMs.

What’s ironic is that Bret Stephens, whatever he tells himself, earned little of the success he has. Bret is a poster child for how the most pervasive brand of affirmative action in U.S. discourse is quota hiring for middle-wit conservatives.
I’m reminded of the story (since deleted) an author posted on Twitter that as a Black woman in college, she got told in dead earnest that she, like all Black students, got to go to college for free.

Augustine is also very clear that the Bible (in his view) does not differentiate between different “kinds” of love.
This is my favorite bit of Brooks: ludus isn't Greek (it's Latin!) and pragma means "act, thing" and is one of the least love-y words in the entire Greek lexicon. I burst out laughing when I read it
