Josiah Royce thought that there were four broad meta-philosophical positions:

- Realism
- Mysticism
- Verificationism
- Pragmatism

(my names, not his)

I don’t know if this is right, but it’s been rattling around my head for the better part of a year now

I *love* reposting things to endorse them while denying that reposting counts as endorsement, ensuring complete plausible deniability at all times. No one can stop me.

When we talk about great really short articles, we hear about Gettier's "I justified true belief knowledge?", Evans' "can there be vague objects?", Anscombe's "A note on mr Bennett."

Not enough credit goes to Salmon's "The fact that x = y". If you haven't read it, do it. It's very short.

Finished teaching modern philosophy (Descartes-Hume-Hegel). Asked my students if they thought it was unfairly hard to have to read Hegel in an intro class. One said next time I should cut out Descartes and spend more time on Hume/Hegel, who are “way more interesting”. Not what I expected to hear.

An extremely attractive two-year postdoc at NYU Shanghai, open to philosophers, that will not appear in the usual venues for philosophers. Each year, one semester teaching in the core curriculum, one semester doing research. Happy to answer any questions. Please share! www.h-net.org/jobs/job_dis...

1. Convincing everyone that Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason is fundamentally about truth.

2. History is an art form, not a science, and the goal of historical scholarship is not to discover facts, but to produce the aesthetic experience of *historical appreciation*
Bluesky academics, lets get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren’t working on but keep thinking about

1. Convincing everyone that everything is luck, all the way down.

2. LLM’s can reason and understand in the external sense.
