the totalizing thing we'll (re-)learn to deny in future is that nonhuman lives matter more than we could ever have (learned to deny)

yeah this one is very bad rn. it's not funny or cute or "wow, these guys are wild" that there's a concentration camp in Florida. it's a horror. It's "the concentration camp at Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport," but all major news outlets are going with "Alligator Alcatraz" in quotes.
One of the most frustrating things about this era, they will mock the dumb administration talking points all day but they will not fail to report on them and use the language the administration prefers. It's happening again with the concentration camp in Florida. They refuse to not use the name.

Abrego is the *only* prisoner ever released from CECOT, so this is the sole account we have of the horrifying conditions in the prison in El Salvador where Trump has sent over 260 people from the US.
Abrego said he shared a cell with 20 people, who were forced to kneel overnight, “with guards striking anyone who fell from exhaustion.”
He was denied bathroom access and soiled himself. Detainees were confined to metal bunks w/no mattresses in an overcrowded cell w/no windows, bright lights…
Politico - Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was illegaly deported by the Trump administration, details his mistreatment in a Salvadoran prison, claiming he suffered "severe beatings," sleep deprivation, malnutrition and other forms of torture at the hands of his jailers.

"If Ethiopia’s fossil-fueled vehicle import ban works and helps the country, why wouldn’t other countries learn the lesson and come up with a similar/the same import ban?"

Remember when the CEO of Exxon said he "didn't get" EVs?

He's probably starting to understand now.

The modern GOP is ideologically committed to smashing the clean energy revolution. Climate people need to digest this.

We won't win climate stability w bipartisan deals. Lasting climate wins will require green economic populism: beating the right until it concedes.

The House budget bill that narrowly passed in an early morning vote on Thursday would effectively put the brakes on a clean energy production boom in the United States spurred by tax credits enacted in 2022.

Turkish student nabbed by thugs and disappeared. No one knows where she is. I rarely saw such thuggish behavior to foreigners in 20 years of living in China. It's taken the Musk-Trump junta 2 months to get this behavior.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

This is a very basic and absolutely essential point that virtually nobody, even within the university, ever raises. We’re on the brink of a massive loss of disciplinary skills and knowledge — a loss that we are, by and large, choosing, without even discussing it as anything more than a market shift.
I'm very concerned that some rare skills will become even rarer. I appreciate that people think that there might be more important things to do than study rare topics, but once the knowledge goes, it goes. /6

Mahmoud Khalil was abducted and disappeared, without consideration of rule of law, by an authoritarian regime intent on crushing dissent and criticism.

Free Mahmoud Khalil.
UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.
