Normally write whatever comes to mind, but the editors specifically requested, if I had the time, to breakdown the meteorological factors that caused the Texas Floods. Here’s my take on 5 key ingredients

The actual bird nerds have long since spoken on this! The Audubon Society supports wind power as a clear net positive for bird populations and biodiversity - w/ targeted protections for a few highly threatened species in a few sensitive geographies (e.g. CA Condors).
Evergreen reminder that wind turbines are not even remotely a leading cause of human-driven bird mortality. This is classic concern trolling in the interest of fossil fuels - if they really cared about birds they'd focus on domestic cats and building glass. And what's not shown here: climate change.

@postnordsverige.bsky.social wtf is wrong with you. My wife can’t pick up her package because it uses her short 1st name rather than full length but it’s only 2 letters difference. So you’re going to send back the package and make everyone spend more money. It’s for a school. It’s for a kids program

Fact-checking wasn’t “biased” against conservatives. Conservatives just shared more false content. If there’s a sportsball game and one team fouls four times as much, it’s not “biased” for the ref to call four times as many fouls against that team.
🚨In Nature🚨
Meta is dropping fact-checking to avoid anti-conservative bias- but is there actually evidence of bias?
We this test empirically & find that conservatives
* ARE suspended more
* BUT share more misinfo
So suspension isn't necessarily evidence of bias www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Differences in misinformation sharing can lead to politically asymmetric sanctions - Nature
We find that conservatives tend to share more low-quality news through social media than liberals, and so even if technology companies enact politically neutral anti-misinformation policies, political...

Last spring, Washington state passed a bill banning commercial octopus farming.

Today, we (myself and 99 others, led by Jennifer Jacquet, Becca Franks, Peter Godfrey-Smith, and Walter Sanchez-Suarez) have a letter in Science supporting the US OCTOPUS Act, which would do the same nationwide.

Washington state has banned octopus farming. California is on its way. Now there are plans to introduce a nationwide bill.

I’m helping circulate an open letter signed by myself and ~80 other scientists in support.

If you are a US academic who wants to read/sign, comment or DM me.

Please share. 🙏🐙
