playing for the audience, in theory
There are no bad Autechre records — only those that punish the impatience of the initiate.

This piece was in our main library in 2015 for a couple of months & a woman told me she would stop by on her lunch break & just sit & look at it almost daily because it gave her some peace. Few better compliments.

Painting of the Day. The Flutist V

This dazzling bright art print made from a painting from Africa depicts a flutist and singer. The artist, Angu Walters, also belongs to a band and often paints musicians. Here is a painting so sparkling it sings.

Such an important point to emphasize.

I find AI to be a useful tool, but it’s not a substitute for working, thinking, reading, etc.

I teach my students that hard work is transformative — that work includes reading, in all its many modes.

I fear the loss of real literacy in future generations.
But this is not something a machine could do for us. The goal of all that reading is not a document full of summaries, nor a mind full of "just summaries," because a mind never reads in such an automatic or intellectually inert fashion. We draw connections, and hopefully we change in the process.

Rest in power, James Ransone
I was just at the gym watching a The Wire s2 episode, and came back to this awful news. Ransone was incredible in that season — so believable as the screw-up determined to live down to everyone's low opinion of him. And great in almost everything else I saw him do. RIP.
'The Wire' Star James Ransone Dead at 46 After Apparent Suicide
James Ransone -- an actor best known for his role in the hit show "The Wire" -- has died ... and the medical examiner is pointing to suicide as the cause.

“You may be more sensitive than most to environments where structure is corrupted slowly, invisibly, and without spectacle… drift that preserves appearance while hollowing function. Noticing it requires attunement to coherence over time.”

Damn, GPT just read me for filth.
