Am I watching things on television that are different from what's happening?
A lovely day for growing older. 💀 Happy Halloween! 🎃

Join me in my Happy Place with many of my favorite people. Gamehole Con is amazing and inclusive, and Connor gives excellent panels. Also, Madison is a charming town in October. Come see what the fuss is about!
Join me at Gamehole Con 12 this year! Event sign-up begins tomorrow (Aug 30). The GHC Team was kind enough to provide D8 Summit Charities space to share several professional-quality panels – plus I’m running a few games too! Thanks to @tabletopgaymers.bsky.social for your panel sponsorship.

I assume they'll be using a "(Death) Panel of Experts" prompting technique? Ghouls.
What a cursed sentence (gift link)

“The A.I. companies selected to oversee the program would have a strong financial incentive to deny claims. Medicare plans to pay them a share of the savings generated from rejections.”

Remembering the time when the opposition party effectively used twee little signs to defeat rising American authoritarianism. Inspirational.

This grotesque and evil ruling seeks to erase trans identities and remove federal harassment protections from queer folks. Traveling across this shithole country is gonna be that much less safe for my husband and me.

This gives me happiness and hope.
1. Today, powerful speeches from trans representatives in Montana SJ Howell and Zooey Zephyr flipped 29 Republicans, killing anti-trans bills.

While some Dems like Newsom abandon trans people, these reps show the power of representation.

Watch their speech.

Powerful Speeches From Trans Dems Flip 29 Republicans, Anti-Trans Bills Die In Montana
Transgender Reps Zooey Zephyr and SJ Howell delivered powerful speeches on the Montana House floor on Thursday. Republicans defected en masse to join them in voting against anti-trans bills.

Sure we can have a little justice, as a treat.

That lingering bitter taste? That's the Trump-appointed judge lamenting Obergefell as the law of the land, practically begging for it to be challenged, à la Thomas.

But for now, a treat.

So this is what they've got for meeting the autocrats head-on? Tepid little signs and color-coded outfits?

In order for this sort of nonsense to work at all, the cameras need to be on you the entire time. Producers/editors need something that *sells*. Like an Al Greene-style display. This ain't it.

"The law ends 18 years of protection against discrimination based on gender identity in Iowa's civil rights law."

How many recorded assaults BY trans folks happened in that time? How many assaults ON them?

Just the strongest Fuck You to Gov. Reynolds and anyone who supports this horseshit.

Senator Murray has been, generally, a boon to our state. Her set of skills have served the nation and our state well. Sadly, these skills are not what is needed to combat the unfolding coup and our decent into full autocracy.

We need more than just tut-tutting a lack of bipartisan participation.
It’s incredibly disappointing that Republican leadership is walking away from bipartisan negotiations to fund the government—and raising the risk of a shutdown in so doing.

Watching the country become a vicious police state while my elected representatives bemoan the cost of eggs and the tax burden on the middle class.

The old Dem playbooks are the wrong tools for this crisis. We've seen the Rs wield power effectively from the minority and know that it's possible.

I get that Dems writing stern letters is a necessary part of our system of governance (important to get stuff in the record for court cases, posterity, and so on.) But if that's all that your elected representatives are doing, I'd argue they don't have the political chops needed in a crisis moment.

Spent my morning break calling my Senators. Pleased to get through to Senator Cantwell's office. Senator Murray's Everett office has a really lousy connection, hope my voicemail worked. Calling my Congressional reps later.

Gotta make some noise, at the very least.

I can only assume this is fiction, given that there was no advice or recourse or suggested action to the constituent's justifiable alarm.

We voted. We donated ($1B!). We engaged with anyone who would listen. Our consolation prize had best not be these smug press releases while the country burns.
A senior in Washington just called my office, terrified of the repercussions of Trump’s funding freeze.

“I’m on SNAP and Medicaid. I don’t know what I’m going to do or how I’m going to live.”

People are legitimately scared for their lives, and it's Trump’s fault.
