Wildly if I were to make a ranked list of how much freedom and stability each grants you (life liberty and happiness etc), you could easily argue college - THE BIGGEST THING ON EARTH WHEN I WAS 12 - is the outlier for rankings in terms of intervention on qol
What has happened over the last 40-50 years, since Ronald Reagan, is a gradual decoupling in the price trajectory of those categories of goods. Here's a slightly-dated image (early 2020s) using BLS data showing the difference. For context, the overall inflation rate for this period was ~50-60%.

I like it when a paradigm for clinical testing is basically a simple yes or no question. I do not like it when a test could persuade someone down a worse path when the answer is 10 feet ahead.
