As of today, all current NOAA Climate and Global Change postdoctoral fellows have been furloughed due to the Dept of Commerce not releasing the funding for the program. In addition no new Fellows were awarded this year. cpaess.ucar.edu/cgc

It will hit academic medical centers in particular as they tend to care for a lot of uninsured in addition to Medicaid. Add in that academic medical centers often provide money losing services not provided by others (burn units) and it will be the perfect storm.
