I read Meg Josephson's ARE YOU MAD AT ME? and boy howdy did it resonate with me, both as a person and a writer. It's about the Fawn Response, so I wrote this little guide on the Fawn Response for Writers. Read on if you dare!

Weird how they put all their efforts into using technology to replace human creativity and art and then say creative arts degrees are useless.

The inability or unwillingness to accept that both of these are true causes immense confusion, frustration, and demoralization among many who fight for a better world.
Human thought is deeply conservative; it will struggle to resist any change in beliefs, attitudes, and habits.
Human thought is exceptionally volatile; under the pressure of events, it can overnight undergo fundamental changes in beliefs, attitudes, and habits.

Made a list of potential titles for my WIP, which has muskets. Whittled them down to three. Decided on THE ONE. But now my teenage self is yelling “At least consider this! C’mon, add it to the list!”
Court of Guns n Roses

just needs a synopsis!

I just ordered Kate's book. Recently realized I don't really know what comes after finishing my WIP (This year dammit!) and reviews tell me Write Through It explains the other side of The End. Looking forward to learning more.

I don’t know, peeps, but I just keep coming back around to the idea that what so many people want is a hopeful vision of a better world, with autonomy, dignity, & respect for all, affordability of food/shelter, education, medical care, clean air/water, & a place in a community. That’s the message.

Truly an amazing work. I’ve recommended so many times in real space. What a narrative voice. On my list to copywork and learn from.
It's Pride month, so I'll say that my debut THE DEVOURERS, a novel about shapeshifters and queerness, sex and sexual violence, probably helped me figure out I was genderqueer & had experienced sexual assault (both belatedly, after publication). It also helps (v modestly) me earn an income:

As someone who used to assist authors in self-publishing, I can't imagine trying to do it today. Too many headaches!

Read what @amcarley.bsky.social recently experienced trying to help a client publish and distribute via Amazon KDP and IngramSpark.
Self-Publishing Assistance Is Becoming Threatened | Jane Friedman
In an attempt to crack down on bad actors, KDP and IngramSpark have made it very difficult for anyone but the author to publish a book there.

Wrist surgeries complete! Three weeks out since the second, which appears enough to type for a duration. I managed 1300 words in two sittings. Feels like I can start thinking about regular writing again (as soon as the NEXT snowstorm is over and the kids are back in school).

I realize adults read YA but I think we NEED to be very careful we’re not alienating the teens these books are supposed to be for.
Which is what I’m seeing with YA books that have toxic romances at their core and a lack of consent.
Is that the kind of relationship you hope for for teen girls? 🤨

Tolkien: ‘We must be satisfied with the soup that is set before us, not desire to see the bones of the ox out of which it has been boiled.’ (Quoting George Dasent.)

This addresses a very different issue, but the comment made brings it forward.
Agreed - I always say when asked about musicians I know (most of whom are great human beings)- enjoy the art, you don’t need to look behind it.
