As someone who has published 13 (yeah that's right) pieces of writing in several lit mags (some that still exist), my advice is:

1.) Submit (unsubmitted work is rarely published anymore)
2.) ONly submit good writing
3.) Call editors for status updates
4.)Make the 1st sentence good (lol)

WIFE: Wait so where is this retreat again?

ME: The fjords
Surely there are fully-funded artist retreats for game designers, somewhere. I just need two weeks of uninterrupted thought and work. Ideally in Portugal? I’d take Belgium, Argentina, Korea… lesser countries too!

Hey, John, be cool, man
there is something like weird fiction, a sister to it, that sits somewhere in the intersections of magical realism, weird fic, absurdism, surrealism and horror, and it is very alive right now despite (or perhaps because of) its namelessness

NEW: A baby held in immigration detention became so sick, she had to be rushed to a hospital in severe respiratory distress.

“She was at the brink of dying,” a lawyer told me.

But the girl didn’t go home after her 10-day hospital stay; instead, ICE put her and her mother back in lock up at Dilley.

The 18-month-old was sent back to a South Texas facility after days in intensive care with severe respiratory distress, according to a federal lawsuit.

Stephen King wrote a craft book called On Writing and it's the one that lit-fic people love and half of it is just ruminations on his childhood but the other half is, hilariously, about how the only way to make your writing good is to cut the wordcount by 50%. From Stephen King.
Craft is a myth invented by fragile artists who need to believe that "good" art exists and that industries like publishing are meritocracies that at least semi-accurately reward goodness.

Cops were frequently getting caught planting drugs in 2017 because body cameras were new and many of them didn't understand how the technology worked.

When cops hit "record" it saved the 30 seconds from *before* they hit the button. Eventually, they figured it out.
