Finally getting my thoughts written for the upcoming @discordpod.bsky.social episode on the first Van Halen album. Get ready for comparison points that no sane person would ever make, including a prominent mention of Jim Rice and Catfish Hunter (the baseball players).

Books and music and arts and film writing and criticism is important and makes the world a more beautiful place. I firmly believe that.

I've been looking for a new musical genre to be autistically fixated on, might be time to give instrumental hip-hop a go

In the 1984 music video for Phil Collins and Philip Bailey's "Easy Lover," they had enough money in the budget for a helicopter. It’s abundantly clear that the industry has regressed, and a Universal Basic Income for Artists isn't enough.

My proposal: a Universal Helicopter Budget for Artists 🚁

When an LP starts with a track that's as ambitious & exciting as "Station to Station" but it doesn't overshadow what follows you know you're listening to a very special record!

50 years old & still absolutely essential! 🎶💥

Quick schedule update: our DJ Shadow episode will be dropping on Tues 2/3, with episodes resuming biweekly thereafter. We had to record it a little later than our usual winter premiere to accommodate our guest's schedule, plus it's a long, intricate episode. But it will be worth the wait!

I like that the best way to describe how Bob Mould’s guitar sounds is to use his album titles. “It’s sort of like… a metal circus? Y’know, how everything falls apart? Right, kind of like black sheets of rain. Or maybe copper blue, or candy apple grey.”
