For every like this gets, I will distribute a life hack.
This thread is as close to a religious experience as I will ever have. A one-Mississippi squirt of laundry detergent is the absolute most you would ever need for a huge, profoundly dirty load of laundry and most loads require merely a WHISPER of cinna- er, of modern detergent.
one of the best changes I did was get a little plastic 2 tbsp spoon (old drink mix scoop) for measuring the laundry detergent.
My washer takes 1-2tbsp max. Much better than using the scoop or cap that comes with the detergent.

I’m going to piggyback on this to say that you’re allowed to use phosphate heavy fryer boil-out (brand name: Fryer Puck) in your empty dishwasher once a month AND IT IS FINE as long as everyone isn’t using mega-phosphates in every load (which was what dishwashing soap used to be).
Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.
So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

Magic the Gathering novels in the mid 90s.
Hear me out.
There was a chunk of time when I wasn’t into books anymore as a kid, and then the Magic the Gathering novels brought me back in.
Anytime I see someone rag on media tie ins, I tell them how they can be such a gateway for reluctant readers. ❤️

performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!
tell me about a book that changed you
for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

NEWS: Senate Republicans are threatening to block the extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies—unless Democrats agree to tougher abortion restrictions.
Republicans demand tougher abortion restrictions to extend Obamacare funds
Democrats say that’s a nonstarter, arguing there are already limits on abortion access. The dispute could torpedo a deal, leading to higher health insurance premiums for millions.

As a former teacher, I'd make up the one sentence about math because I need to compliment sandwich the full page to tell you that your sociopathic kid needs therapy and shit is BAD.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

And if you want it back the password is 'louvre'.
Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

I do think this is a point of radicalization because a lot of angry, angry normal people were ready to dig in and suffer a lot in order to make fascists suffer a little, and their resolution was sold out and made into a mockery

I choose to believe buying myself Zingerman’s GIANT MONTHLY CRATE OF ALL THINGS counts as an advent calendar because I open it twelve times. Also please gift me the Zingerman’s giant crate of all things.
everything is bonkers right now and we need a timeline cleanse. let’s play a game. if I handed you a blank check but you could ONLY spend it on an Advent calendar, what absurdly pricy collection of little treats are you buying yourself?
