Disabled lefty shouting into the void.
We should resist this for immigration because it's the moral thing to do.

Also - where does this end? Will you have to give up your watch to the A&E nurse before you get treated? Will losing your job mean losing family heirlooms for support?

It's a dangerous step on a very slippery slope!
“They went for pensioners, they went for the disabled, and now they’re going for people fleeing war and conflict. I am furious — this government should hang their heads in shame.”

“If Labour don’t do this, we’ll get a Reform government”

Trans people, disabled people, migrants, people of colour and people seeking asylum already have a Reform government.

You just want to feel superior to those who like the idea of Nigel Farage as PM.

Just saw an advert for a candlelight concert of Vivaldi's four seasons...

Can't think of a posher way to experience a DWP trauma fever dream 💀😂

I know they've changed hold music now but the moment I hear four seasons I'm transported back to the body shaking anxiety of being on hold in the 2010s 🫠

Been waiting since Jan to hear about my PIP review. Just sat on the phone for an hour to confirm that it's not just the DWP causing delays but serco too! 🙃

Maybe they'll want an assessment. Maybe not 🤷🏻‍♂️ I might be waiting 2 more weeks to find out but idk if that was plucked out of thin air.

My oncologist brought forward my post scan appointment by nearly two weeks (just 1w post scan) and I immediately interpreted this urgency as "it's back!" and started planning my year around the inevitable surgery I'd need...

Turns out it just got reported early and they wanted to be efficient 😅

There is not an issue I can think of where labour will do the right thing for citizens over lobbyists.

I don't understand the enthusiasm with which they throw themselves into the centre of situations and side with the people doing the shitty thing.

Never miss an opportunity for bad press.

Sooo.... I did a thing 🫣
Just shared my first bookbinding project: a custom hardcover for Disability Visibility. This book shaped how I see myself as a disabled person — so it felt right to begin here. Full video + reflection on YouTube, linked below.

£650 could do so much good if focused in the right place. Cars for the wealthy ain't it.

If it went on insulation or heating upgrades for the poor it would play a dual role in reducing the poorest's energy bills whilst also reducing emissions - likely by more than this car scheme.

Temperatures in the UK are reaching life-threatening levels more often. We do not have a culture which can handle that - hydration, sunscreen, shelter, rest - and our infrastructure is built to retain heat. People are dying. Add your name. www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/we...
We need a maximum working temperature
Every summer, temperatures are rising and working in prolonged heat and sun can be dangerous. It can cause a number of health concerns, from dehydration and dizziness to the most serious of illnesses....

Compared to Europe, the UK is not a high spender on welfare
July 2, 2025 at 3:16 PM
Tears at the thought of having to go back to a cushy finance salaried job but not for the hundreds of thousands people they've condemned to poverty.

Self-interested and devoid of morality. Everyone who has an opportunity to remove these people from power and isn't taking it is a coward.

We are such a nasty, cheap, little island.
How much does the UK spend on welfare?

🇪🇺 Relatively little compared to Europe: just 10.8% of GDP in 2023 (including sickness & disability benefits, pensions, etc.).

Meanwhile, 🇫🇮Finland spends 25.7% of GDP & 🇫🇷France 23.8%.

Disappointed that @zackpolanski.bsky.social hasn't mentioned the welfare bill on here at all this week.

The UK left seems hell bent on ignoring disabled ppl.

The bill will only cement labour's betrayal for all impacted & the "eco-populist" movement should offer them a home.

Instead it's silent 🫩
July 2, 2025 at 7:36 AM
Call me naive but I think we should maybe have rules that say the substance of a bill should be in place *before* it's allowed to get voted on.

The UK's constitutionless vibes based management of our legislative process is shit and should be replaced. Don't care about this history/tradition.
🚨BREAKING: MPs have just voted for cuts to social security - with unwritten promises from the UK Government

This is reckless.

Disability rights aren’t optional. Poverty is a political choice. This Govt chose it tonight.

We'll keep fighting until this cruel Bill is rejected completely.

Of course this vote would happen during a heat wave and whilst I'm very busy with other critical things in my personal life.

No capacity to engage with it.

Fuck labour. I'll forever have disdain for anyone who attached their name to this bill.

This is actually really important but will be missed because of the government's welfare bill.

If we installed air to air heat pumps in public buildings as a green heating drive then we could also use them as "cold banks" during heatwaves to protect the vulnerable.

This is climate justice.
The elderly and vulnerable, the safety of children in our schools, and our NHS services are all at risk during periods of extreme weather.

That's why the government must hold an urgent COBRA meeting - coodination is vital for ensuring that lives and services are protected during high temperatures.

Hearing someone mention ableism on the news and applying the concept critically to government policy feels so...

...Validating?

The state and media have been undermining our humanity for so long that I assumed outsiders just couldn't contemplate this obvious discrimination as wrong.

More evidence that the vote should at least be postponed. How are MPs supposed to vote on a piece of legislation so large that it's impossible to digest in a day when they are still making such massive changes the day before the vote?!

#PIP #TakingThePIP
IMPORTANT ADD ON: I will warn that - due to the chaos - the government are adding new information by the day and some of it is already falling under inspection. The above is what it appears so far but until the bill is passed and more details come to light, every fact is…moving.

My pet peeve is when programmes don't have the update installer inside their application.

*I'm looking at you blackmagic* 😒

I shouldn't have to go into a web browser to download a zip file and then extract it and run the executable file for an update you're bugging me to install!! 😤

The government isn't – creating – a two-tier benefits system, sadly this is how the system has always worked against the most vulnerable disabled folks. e.g. removing payments only from new claimants in the means-tested ESA and UC work-preparation group in 2017 💀
