Cheese lover
Remembering the Indian uncle at the cake counter of our favourite café in Frankfurt who when I ordered Black Forest said “no no, this cream cake has been sitting here two days in this heat, you’re having the mandarin cheese cake”. I had the mandarin cake.

The woman in front of us at Rewe wanted to buy a bunch of carrots with their tops on. The bunch cost like 1-2€, but the cashier rang up each carrot individually and they cost over 10€. Nothing says a woman does my cooking and grocery shopping like a man ringing up each carrot. The woman protested,

We have leftovers from last night’s dinner and my fiancé said “we can go half seasons”. I was like hmm, this must be Dutch. When I asked he said I say it. I don’t. What I do say is “go halfsies”. He’d thought it’s ’half seasons’ and he’s said it ever since. We’re going half seasons tonight.

I’m not really feeling Christian love with “you don’t know what you have unleashed”, “battle cry”, “we have the watch” and [cough] ‘Valhalla’.

My little neff is 2 years and 8 months old. Showing me his lion and elephant he says “they are friends”. I say “they are friends. They play… and they eat…” to which he usually says ‘together’ twice. Today he filled the blank after ‘eat’ with ‘food’. I’m like woohoo, transitive verb win…!!

I don’t know what Merz means by „mehr Eingenverantwortung“ in the context of health insurance and harder ‘social benefits’ reforms. It does though sound like the country is being governed by influencer alpha bros.

Question: I know Berlin requires cats to be indoors. What are the laws like in Brandenburg? Neighbors left on vacation, told the group chat cat is “fine” outdoors, and has someone giving food. I live in an area with Wildschwein, Fuchs and more, and the cat tried to follow in with us. I’m upset. 😢

My IG account is old, but the concept of posting is still new to me. I’m still getting used to videos of people sipping tea while the text reads “five things to lower crippling anxiety”. I’m like won’t you say the five things to lower crippling anxiety? No. They just filmed themselves sipping tea.

My Dutch fiancé needed a hug because just he learnt that an ounce is 28.35g whereas the Dutch ons is 100g. “I ate an ounce of cheese” has new meaning in our lives.

Berlin folk - I'm organising a trip for a group of Scottish folk (mainly pensioners) next year. Any tips on things they might not find in traditional guide books? Good restaurants, cafes, biergarten etc?

We've already got a tour with @jonnywhitlam.bsky.social on our list.

Our Sri Lankan home is full since my brother and I are both visiting our parents. I understand our family a bit better now watching people fight over lumpy old pillows and rough cotton bedlinen from Gehantex. Back and neck support and soft fabrics are not for the Algamas. Nor are bright lights.

this is partly why it’s so important that you give good feedback on your local libraries. send messages to the council saying how much you appreciate their work, their inclusive collections, how much you value that they have books on lgbtq+ families and parenting, for example.
You know when we kept saying this was coming, this was happening, this was never a US-only issue, we were having events cancelled and being left off lists and parents had to sign permission slips when we were coming in to do assemblies? You know? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The caretaker lets me plant flowers in one of the raised beds in the garden. I saw one woman stop by and touch the plants, another asked for a few nasturtium leaves and flowers for her salad. Someone else stole the beautiful flowering cow herb, but I’m glad there’s a community feel to this bed.

I once helped a friend move. As an immigrant student I had much less things and she thought I should have the things she wasn’t moving with. It was kind of her, but I ended up leaving things on a street corner for people to take. It was a lesson in how things that are important to me aren’t
