My neff and I drew together. He wanted the lion to have some mud. I added grass saying the lion is aesthetically inclined. I think it’s a fair argument. On the right you see a dark blue zebra and elephant and a red and blue hippo. Neff chose the colours.

I’m in Germany waiting for my little neff in Australia to wake up from his nap.

The world was not ready for pythons in underwear.

I don’t know what insect this is, but it parks itself on marigold flowers.

Reporting another new flower 😍

Reporting a new flower in the bed. This is either golden tickseed or tricolour daisy.

The caretaker lets me plant flowers in one of the raised beds in the garden. I saw one woman stop by and touch the plants, another asked for a few nasturtium leaves and flowers for her salad. Someone else stole the beautiful flowering cow herb, but I’m glad there’s a community feel to this bed.

I’ve cared for this patch of flowers and ‘weeds’ outside the building and someone has taken out the beautiful cowherb and annual fleabane completely from the root. I had saved the fleabane when it was teeny tiny in the hot sun about to die. They were happy, thriving plants and I’m sad they are gone.

The roads are lined with yards of flowering blackberry. Rosaceae for the win.

I‘m very much here for the green spaces to turn lush because we are finally getting some proper rain!

We found an oak growing in one of the pots on the balcony. Haven’t the faintest clue as to how because we are too far up for squirrels. Anyway, we are now the people with an oak on the balcony. Oakley joins a butterfly bush and a red currant bush that we hope to transfer into a garden one day.

I scattered some seeds and some of my balcony-grown compost in a bed in front of our building. This is a French brocade marigold. The deep orange with yellow borders and underside is just beautiful.

So we did go to the rose garden and it was just such a beautiful green place.

Holy moly were we in for a treat with a T (literally with rose tea). Yes, we learn there’s a rose estival here next year.

But of course bureaucracy kicked in and people mowed the lawns more than one changes underwear. The Hausmeisterin frantically waters her roses, but also strips the garden of ground cover while Hessen is in drought mode and it hasn’t rained properly in months.

and all kinds of grass. This meant there were ladybugs, bees and other insects. Pretty soon there were kids lying down on the grass catching the sun. This patch of green brought us so much joy.

I do not understand why people keeps lawns and grow grass to cut it back. In Germany if you rent, you pay for the upkeep of the garden, but without rights to use. The lawn in front of our building looked like a Monet painting when they let things grow in early spring. There were daises, dandelions

Do you experience with black aphids on nasturtiums and green ones on roses? How did you get rid of them? So far I‘ve been spraying down the plant tops with water and dish wash liquid.

She isn’t here. I’m arranging the shelf.

I got to talking with a woman at my public bookshelf. One thing led to another, promises were made and here I am at 8:30am on a Saturday with some Krimis for her. Now to see if she turns up.

With my partner in tow with a watering can, I planted some seeds in the neglected riser beds outside our building. Hello, baby nasturtium 🥰
