I talk occasionally about how Electronic Warfare is actually pretty easy to understand, there just aren't any good explanations aimed at laymen, so here's a quick crash course in it I wrote last night on impulse:
ANYWAYS QUICK CRASH COURSE ON HOW EW WORKS: You have passive sensors, which can't be detected, but don't usually tell you a lot about targets and cannot see through jamming at all, and active sensors, which people can see hitting them and know you're there but give you a lot more info and can burnthrough jamming Active sensors and jammers make their signals the same way, so an active radar and a radar jammer of the same size and with the same power source will be just as powerful. However, since radars usually rapidly modulate their frequency, a jammer has to spread out its signal a bit across the spectrum which makes it inherently weaker. You'd think this would make jammers useless, but the active radar has to bounce the signal off the target and get the return back, which means it has to go twice the distance the jammer does, so as long as the jammer is far enough away it can overwhelm the radar. If it's close enough, though, the radar will "burnthrough" the jamming by simply being too strong for the jammer to compete with. Jammers can do more than just deafen radars with noise, though - they can also give false radar returns. It is obviously extremely difficult to lie about which direction you are from the radar, but you can really easily lie about your distance, or how fast you're moving, or how big you are, or very slight lies about your angle. A fake return that's weaker than the real one will just be dismissed, though, so deception jamming can still be burnt through. Speaking of angle - so, radars have very limited angular resolution, and have to rely on complicated signal processing to tell the exact angle of a target. This is why you can decieve a radar as to your angle at all. Also, they can see your jamming signal - that's the whole point. If you're doing deception jamming, they might not necessarily be able to tell it's fake and they're being jammed, but they definitely see you. But a signal jamming signal might prevent the target from seeing other guys on your side - so you can hide your allies by jamming loud, which is a practice called "support jamming". Also, you have radars for SEARCH and radars for TRACKING, and an individual radar might be able to do both by switching modes. A search radar has a wide beam and covers a big area with relatively weak emissions, whereas a tracking radar has a narrow beam and relies on something else to tell it where the target is in the first place to start tracking it, but can direct a lot more power at that target. This is what "locking on" really is - switching radar to tracking mode to strengthen the return of a particular signal at the cost of losing the ability to detect other things. A lot of defensive jamming techniques rely on messing with your signal to get a tracking radar to look at the wrong thing and lose track of you, at which point the enemy has to go back to SEARCH to find you again.

In 2024/5, I was mostly prioritising getting a stable job. This was not only for financial reasons--though that too--but also because I had little hopes of Ireland extending my refugee status in perpetuity. The messaging has always been "You're very welcome, can't wait for you to leave"

The extent to which we can reach parents and stop them from cooperating with this is gonna be crucial. Any trans kid engaging with the NHS *at all* will be harmed more than they would be by simply leaving their dysphoria untreated (and way way more than DIY on the quiet).

There is a trend of video game narratives where women are prominent to be overly focused on motherhood and the 'natural' nurturing urges we're all supposed to harbor. It happens even when the woman in question wears power armor and blasts aliens with a giant arm cannon.
