Just changed my handle — FYI I plan to use this did mostly to talk about atproto, ethereum, dweb, and other cypherpunk/privacy stuff. Still mainly on Farcaster, but I'll hang around for the BSKY airdrop🤞😏
Glad Zuck is standing up to Palo Alto NIMBYs. Anybody, including Zuck, should be allowed to run a local school in their home, free from nanny state bullshit. What you should be mad about is people poorer than Zuck who don't have the cash & lawyers to stand up to petty permitting lawfare from NIMBYs
SCOOP (free, as it's FOIA-based!): I obtained 1,665 pgs of documents about "Bicken Ben," a growing private school the Zuckerbergs ran illegally out of their Palo Alto compound
Neighbors complained the school for years. Then, in 2024, they reached their breaking point:

Mark Zuckerberg Opened an Illegal School at His Palo Alto Compound. His Neighbors Revolted
Neighbors complained about noise, security guards, and hordes of traffic. An unlicensed school named after the Zuckerbergs’ pet chicken tipped them over the edge.

Web5 was supposed to be did's and verifiable credentials, so yes, ATProto is Web5

I don't think we can pitch decentralization as a solution to people who want a bad account banned because they're not trying to fix what they see in their own feeds, they're trying to control what I see in mine.
Fixing their own feeds is already accomplished by blocking and going on with your day

Since everyone is still giving hot takes:
IMHO the biggest mistake was ever having a 'trust & safety' team or 'community guidelines.' The only rule shoulda been: "this is a tech demo, if you annoy us in any way for any reason, we will ban you & maybe all your followers, if toxic enough"

I agree with this article, I will admit I scrolled my discover feed anticipating some appalling takes, but for the most part I did not find them, quite tame TBH. The whining on X about "how bad Bluesky was" was just a blatant attempt to poison-the-well & shame ppl from trying decentralized social.
I wrote about the caricature of Bluesky that right-wing Twitter accounts were pumping out to hundreds of millions of people yesterday @slate.com. Hey, Bluesky did finally become an echo chamber. Just not the one these people were pretending it is: slate.com/technology/2...
No, Bluesky Isn’t Celebrating the Death of Charlie Kirk
Despite what right-wing influencers want you to believe, liberals actually hate political violence.

Also: engineering approaches to inference are strictly better for complex systems. Period.
If your analysis pipeline is not amenable to engineering approaches to inference, then you're better off spending time finding a way to represent your data so that it becomes amenable.

On the surface, the notion that stablecoins don't need decentralized rails (like Ethereum) sounds plausible if not obvious.
